The remote they hire out can only be used once, there is also a chance you could damage your machine using it,best bet is to buy a cheap multi-region DVD player to use along side your panny, thats what I did saves on wear and tear on your panny as well. :)

If the DVD was advertised as R2 but isn`t what region is it then? If it doesn`t do what it says on the tin then take it back.

I`d also backup Zovirax point about getting a seperate MR player, I find it easiest and also means can watch DVD`s whilst recording etc. and if needed can backup from one to the other without PC if needed

The whole point of a non-chip mod is that you don`t damage your machine!

Sorry but saying to buy another cheap recorder (at least £120) to use alongside a half decent machine, compared to the price to mod the pana it in the first place is a bit sad - if you`re going to save ware and tear on the pana (in otherwords not use it!) by buying yet another cheapo recorder, then why buy the pana in the first place?

:p

They were merely pointing out to buy another multi region player, not a recorder, which is something that I would advise. The cost of a cheap multi region player that will play anything you chick at it?......£20 from Asda......how does that compare with the remote hack thing? If I remember corectly the remote hack was about £25 so you save £5 plus have a half decent recorder that will last longer cos you have a cheap player too

I bought a second Panny E50 in a sale after being delighted with my first E50 which I bought already chipped for multi-region. The second one wasn`t so I `hired` a hack remote, fired it at the Panny once, returned the remote and now have a superb multi-regional DVD recorder in the sitting room as well as the lounge. Go for it.

1, Most people all ready own a standerlone multi-region player before they ever think of buying a DVD Recorder.
2, Mine cost £30.00 and the picture is just as good as the Panny E55 I own.
3.You can copy from it and also record and watch another DVD at the same time.
4.My £30.00 pound wonder can also play my collection of SVCD`s I have collected,my Panny E55 does not.
5, Why play my DVD`s on my Panny when my standerlone does the same job, and why not save wear and tear, makes sense to me.
6.Making your Panny multi-region could invalidate your guarantee if the dealer you bought it from did not supply it like that.
7.Like the man said you can get multi-region players for £20.00, nobody said buy another recorder.
