BNI dvd recorder 1000 r odd fault?

blodwin (Competent) posted this on Friday, 18th March 2005, 19:00

Hi

The machine works fine with dvd +r s but the dvd +rws would freeze at 8 chapters no matter which setting was used [ ep/sp/hq/slp ] and tried the reset and it still did not work properly.[ THE ABOVE FOR 9 OUT OF 10 RECORDINGS ]The odd one worked.
Then i tried the drive update and no difference noticed.
But i did not use it for around a week and it was unplugged and goes fine now no more problems.

Hope this is of use for other bni 1000 r users.

bye

Empire Direct are doing this for £119-99 here:

Is it worth that money or should I pay a bit more?

What I meant was, should I pay a bit more and go for a better quality model?
It does take minus and plus discs and also has Dolby 5.1 built in but do you get what you pay for with DVD recorders or are the budget models OK?

I`d be inclined to avoid this recorder for the simple fact there`s only one SCART and it`s output only.

A better bet would be the Asda recorder, the 4KUS 230.

Hi

The bni 1000 r good picture via set topbox [ goodmans dgb 4 ] i have an adapter plug so i can connect ] [only 1 scart ].
I have added a fan [ about 50 mm and at the rear of the power supply aimed up slightly to the vents using tie wraps and a glue gun . [ can just hear it running and the power is from the computer standard power plug on the bni 1000 r drive.[patch plug ].You cant put anything on top of the machine but after 6 hours recording its only just warm now.Not a hand warmer disk like before.
The machine has been fine with the dvd +r but had problems with the dvd+rw but ok now .It is not keen on the verbatim and seems to work better with cheaper disks from svp or maplins.I have loaded the drive update from the website and i cant say it made much difference.[ but i only use about 5 makes of disk ]
You can tell if the machine does not like a dvd +rw the erase or somtimes format behaves odd. But may still record on it [ but might lockup the unit and have to unplug ]
It will not record on - type disks .

Hope this helps you decide .
