Page 1 of NTSC and PAL - what do they mean??

Can anyone tell me what these mean?My DVD players manual says it plays NTSC and PAL disks, does that mean that I can play disks from the US?

In a word "Yes".

We use a different system to the US. There`s a difference in frame rates so it goes out of sync with incompatible systems. For UK players that can play NTSC, you want to look out for whether it can actually OUTPUT in PAL if your TV only supports that. Most modern TV`s will be fine receiving a PAL or an NTSC signal if you just set them to AUTO or similar. If however you watch an NTSC DVD on a PAL tv, then you may notice an ever so slight judder every now and then. It`s only really noticable on slow panning scenes. This is due to the video having to play around with the frame rate to keep it in sync with the TV.

it doesnt mean you can play disks from the US actually as there are other factors such as region coding ... if your player is region 2 only then you will be able to play Region 2 PAL ( Europe / South Africa) and region 2 NTSC ( Japan ) and also Region 0 or All both NTSC and PAL disks ... you wont be able to play US NTSC Region 1 disks without first cracking the region coding
