Hardware Forum
I am just wondering if anyone knows where there is a review of this hardware, either the 80gb, 160gb or the 240gb version.
cheers

jasontodd, I have recently got the 80Gb version from Pixmania, approx, £160.
Main reason was for external hard drive use for freeing up my PC hard`drive of all of my Music and Divx films. The added advantage is that it will output direct to TV/Stereo system.
Currently I am still loading it gradually with my files, until I have finished decorating my bedroom. Then it will go upstairs to be plugged into my old Philips DVD suround sound set up and TV to use as a Divx movie player and Music Jukebox player. I must admit that I have not tried out a lot of play back yet, but I would think that if you keep all folders and files well organised then it should be fine. Note, I am using USB 1.1 and this is a bit slow, would suggest getting USB 2 on your PC if considering this unit to speed up file transfer.
Any info on what the picture quality is like on these? I find the lack of RGB Scart a bit worrying but SVideo can be ok on some setups.
Some people have complained about slow navigation, but that`s to be expected to a certain degree with a device like this and can be worked around with good directory structure. What are people`s opinions? Is this viable as a lounge MP3 player? How noisey is is?
Picture quality is actually excellent depending of course on the quality of the file you put onto the player. But, and it`s a big but, the sound of the thing when it is running is unbearable. Don`t know if it`s an internal fan or the hard drive itself but the noise it produces makes watching a film almost impossible. Originally thought this may have been a problem with my particular player so I sent it back to Freecom, however the replacement I received is just as noisy if not more so.
