orac (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 4th July 2001, 13:34

i typed in a sky videoplus no. into the VCR, it comes up with a time and says channel not defined. (The channel is the AV channel).
Any ideas?

Also is there PDC on BBC1 etc. on Sky Digital

Don`t *think* you can use Video+ on digital services!! I think that it can only be used on`normal` T.V. :( If theres no Video+ then there would be no need for Programme Delivery Control (PDC) thus I would suggest no!

You can actually use Viddyplus on digital broadcasts, but you will have to tell your video what SCART input to pick up (there`s normally an INPUT or LINE button which, when pressed, will show the channel as L1 or AV1, etc, to correspond with the SCART socket that your digibox is connected to).

My cheap Sanyo VCR is actually pretty clever and works it out for itself most of the time, inserting L1 as the channel when I plug in a Viddyplus code for OnDigital stuff.

Of course, the main bugbear for Sky Digi owners is the lack of a timer switch facility, meaning you`ll have to leave it on all the time whilst you sup ale in your local hostelry. Of course (he said smugly) us minority OnDigi customers have the added advantage of a timer on the digibox...

Hope this helps anyway.

Oops - forgot to say : no PDC on digital broadcasts as far as I know, so add the usual ten minutes to allow for broadcasting cock-ups (have to say Sky One is very on the ball, and always started at the time stated - useful for taping X-Files recently)

So i should type in videoplus, then when it says channel not defined, try and push a button to define AV2 channel?

I went for sky digital (unsubscribed) cos are aerial is knackered and our reception is not very clever anyway. Cost £80, once you get someone to come and look at aerial etc. i thought that sky digital guranteed a result.

Not being able to tape a channel and watch other side (other digital channel) is a bit annoying - can this be done on ONdigital?

Anyway On digital would of not worked i doubt - cos it goes thru aerial.

I`ve just re-read my post and realised I forgot to say that `there should be a button on your VCR remote control marked INPUT or LINE or AV` - may also be beneficial to dig out the manual too :-)

You have never, until now, been able to tape one digital channel whilst watching another. However, the new SkyPlus system will put paid to that although, by all accounts, it`ll cost you an extra tenner a month.

As for aerial coverage, remember that analogue and digital terrestrial signals are completely different, so just because you have a naff picture on a normal TV doesn`t necessarily mean you`ll have a naff OnD piccy.

Incidentally, don`t forget that you can still tape off terrestrial telly whilst you`re watching digital TV.
