Christ shaggy, you`re hell bent on a Sony i take it! As long as you realise thatt Sony no longer have the market position they once had in the dvd market then fine(Toshiba,Pioneer and now Arcam all wipe the floor with any Sony machine).
If price is no object then the Sony 9000es is their top of the range model, boasting dvd and Sacd compatibility plus a superb level of style and construction. But at £1200 it is still not the best dvd you can buy.The Pioneer 737 simply beats it into a corner in sheer performance terms, and that can be found for as little as £499 now.
Im not aimingthis at you shag, but some people have this old myth that Sony make the best product around and that if they have an all Sony system, its going to make all the difference to have a Sony dvd as well.WRONG!. As i said,if its a Sony you want and price is no object, then the 9000es is for you,but just remember that brand loyalty just isnt a wise move any more-this market is now VERY competitive-you`d be silly not to audition alternative players from different brands.
I`ve gone back on what you said about swaying your decision.but i`ve been involved in home av for quite a while, and just know that you`re being naive!
Go on,experiment, you dont know what you`re missing... :-)

All the best

(ps the 9000es is good by the way!)

i know there are deffo better makes as i own a samsung 511 and am very happy with it but this dvd player is for a rich athlete who is willing to pay me for finding him a suitable dvd player and i was just seeing what other peoples opinions are he specifically asked for a sony so who am i to argue!!! lol its not my money expensive models accepted!!

In that case mr shag its definitely the Sony 9000es!! I didnt realise it wasn`t for you,so if `sebastian coe` wants a top notch dvd then this top of the range Sony is his new best friend!
Without sounding like an insulting and inconsiderate tosspot, does this man have more money than sense? If i were you i`d steer him towards the new Onkyo THX ULTRA certified dvd player that retails for £1800! The Sony is simply a joke next to this machine,or if its style then the new Arcam FMJ dvd is absolutely gobsmacking. If he`s willing to pay you money then by all means recommend the Sony with its lovely `champagne` finish, but crikey demand more cash by offering him the best there is!!

If it has to be a Sony, then the 9000es it is-top machine, though there are better :-)

Happy Money Making

And if the athlete chokes at the price for some reason, then the DVP-S7700 is the next Sony down the list. Stunning quality for 5-600 quid.

And if he decides that he hasnt got that much money after all, then the Sony 735d is a top class player for £400!
