problems with JVC DR-M10S "LOADING"

ronnie duncan (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 19th March 2006, 18:27

I have now had two of these machines and both appear to have suffered from the same fault.
Just after 12 months of purchase the first of my purchases started to display green flashes and other picture interference (not sure of the technical term here) during playback.
The timer was also affected if set for a recording more than say 24 hours later.
I put this down to my fault in playing a DVD+r disc when only DVD-R are suitable.
Unfortunately this was just past the 12 months warranty date.
The machine functioned perfectly if unplugged then reconnected from the mains for a short time although once reconnected "LOADING" flashed intermitently on the display for some time before it could be used.
Deciding to cut my losses I purchased an identical machine which seemed to working perfectly for a few months and I ensured only DVD-R discs were used.
Then for no apparent reason the second machine developed an identical fault and will only work for a limited period before it has to be unplugged and reconnected thus displaying the "LOADING" message again.
This obviously is not good for long term timer recordings.
Is this fault repairable and has anyone else encountered the same problem with this model?
I had heard read reviews of the DR-M10S but I am afraid I will be looking elsewhere should a new recorder be required.

I have a DR-M10S which was factory refurbished. I have had the LOADING error happen many times in the 5 months I`ve had the machine, but it always goes back to normal after a few minutes and my pushing the eject button.

This might not be any help to the problem at hand, but I notice the error happening only when there is a smudge on the blank disc. Once the laser hits the smudge, on goes the LOADING error with blue light flashing.

I just try to make sure the disc surface is clear of smudges before placing it in the tray to avoid the flashing and such. And it has been a long while since I had the LOADING error. It is a good machine otherwise.

I have the DR-M7S (same as your machine but without the DV input at the front)

Nearly a year old and so far (TW) no sign of this "LOADING" bug. Although I wipe every disc before inserting it and clean the lens regularly, so maybe that`s why I don`t suffer with this problem?

Only trouble I have is a lipsync problem when recording to DVD-RW. Doesn`t seem to happen when using RAM discs. I always record from Sky via SCART input, no other source. Can`t understand why it would occur regularly on RW discs but not RAM discs, but there you go.

Just thought you might like input from another mutual owner.

PS I wouldn`t buy another JVC machine. Don`t like the way it operates at all. My other recorder is a Liteon LVW-5006, which I love. I have also previously owned a Toshiba DR-1, which was lightyears ahead of the JVC for functionality. When the JVC packs up, I fancy a Panasonic.

I have been told by an EXPERT that what happens to my DR M10 JVC DVD cannot happen - it DOES -every time!
The Input source cannot effect it! - wrong - IT DOES!!!!
I use my DVD recorder for its component output to enable Picture in Picture for my Erae TV.
If I have the Digi Box as the Scart input, it goes into the LOADING fault after 20 to 25 minutes, every time without fail.
If I have my Cable Box in the Scart input it never happens!
I now never connect the Digi Box to the DVD and I have no problem.
Sure, get it sorted by JVC who are very aware of the problem if you can, but otherwise monitor what input source you are using.
