Page 1 of POLL: What is the best/ideal screen size....?

Based on the standard Plasma/LCD Screen sizes, which do you think is the most ideal size? (there seem to be very few screens in between 42" and 50" - hence the big jump!).

Personally, I think it`s between 37" - 42" (depending on the size of the room). Anything under 37" just seems too small - and 50" or above is too big.

Id get the biggest I could afford :D

Are the speakers included in the overall width ie 42" screen + speaker dimensions & facia or underneath or totally seperate?

Not sure if I`m phrasing it right (back from the pub, hey whats new), but a 40" with discrete speakers may be better than a 38" jobby with 3" tacked on either side of the overall package on a chimney breast (before 42% gets in with his 2p`s worth thats without a actual fire\heat source in the area).


I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

I have a 50" in a smallish room , 4 x 4 metres. Its on the chimney breast and looks small when I sit 3.5 metres from it. I think my eyes are fcuked

Ive got a 32" crt which, in retrospect, is a shade big for my front room. Although if it were a wall mounted LCD, the reduced footprint would make it pretty much bang on the right size.

So, in summary.......it depends on your front room.

Yeah, that`s a hard question to answer. Our living room is titchy, and we have a 28" CRT, although I personally would love a 42" plasma. Pennies aren`t there though. :(

But definitely the bigger the room, the bigger the screen size needed.

Just wait for SED TVs to hit the shelves!!! :D

I have a 6m x 6m front room and my 32" crt is the correct size for me. my next door neighbour has bought a 42" plasma and hates it, doesn`t like the picture and it is too big. Says he need`s to be about another 3-4m away from the screen

I think it must be to do with their personal preference and what they`re used to. I`ve just bought a 42" ( :) ) and sit about 3m away - and imo, it is the perfect size - great for movies and sport, and not too big for basic programmes. I used to have a 36" CRT, and now that seems quite small - it`s amazing how quickly you get used to the screen size! The only trouble now though, is I never seem to leave the house.... ;)
