Cyberhome 528 NTSC "Flickering" Problem
Since the CH 528 doesnt have an "auto" setting for the output I have to
manually select "NTSC" or "PAL" according to the disc.
When I select NTSC the Cyberhome background screen shows very clearly a shadowy "band" which moves up and down the TV screen (almost like when you see a computer screen shown in the background on the news sometimes).
My previous players did not do this and my TV (Panasonic PK2) can handle NTSC. How can I stop this annoying effect (doesnt happen at all on the PAL setting).
It also shows shadowy bands across the screen when playing NTSC discs on the NTSC setting - is my player faulty or is the 528 just no good at playing back NTSC ?
Does the PAL and NTSC setting relate to the TV type and not the DVD disc ? Ony my multi-region Grundig player the TV type is set to PAL via the setup menu and it doesn`t matter which type of disc is in the machine. Both PAL and NTSC discs play ok as long as the TV type is set to PAL. I,m not sure if you have the same kind of menu setup though.
Good luck.
No on the CH it refers to the signal output by the DVD player to the TV. If it outputs an NTSC signal I get the flickering / shadowy banding problem.
UPDATE ! I have tried the CH 528 player on my 4:3 28" Sony set and the flickering isnt there so it must be a compatability issue between my Panasonic PK2 28" TV and the DVD. The thing is Ive tried 5 other DVD players on the set (including the CH 512) and all of those worked fine with no flickering !
Can someone please help as I cant use the player on my TV at the moment !

Hmmm, I get the same thing on my Panasonic TV (TX21) when playing R1 discs, but only when using an RGB signal - not with plain video (whether this eliminates the problem or just hides it due to poorer picture quality I don`t know.)
My player`s a Tosh 210 and works fine with region 2 & 4 discs so it must be an NTSC issue with Panasonic TVs. If you can choose to output a video signal from your CH528 then it might remove the banding - I havn`t tried S-VHS as my TV doesn`t have an input but that might clear it up without losing picture quality. Hope this helps...

I have a similar problem with my Wharfdale M5.
My problem is a little bit different though, I get a line moving across the set from right to left when the tv output is set to PAL on my m5. This problem is present with RGB, S-VHS and normal Composite Video.
I do not get this problem when the output is set to NTSC, but this setting makes the colours look to pink, I also do not get this problem when the output is set to PAL60, but on this setting when there is no dvd in the player and the startup screen is shown, the top of the screen wobbles, this is not at all noticeable when watching a dvd.
Is this a problem with my tv, perhaps the refresh rate (i have a 32" philips widescreen - 6005) or maybe a compatability issue between the dvd player and tv.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers
