Freeview hard drive/dvd recorder help please

Paul Waddington (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 12th July 2006, 12:46

Hi all

I`ve finally lost patience with Sky+ after my sixth box. They only last 6-12 months and then wipe everything off the hard drive and stop recording. This is followed by the usual row with their customer service team to get an engineer and replacement box without having to pay more money.

As most of the channels we watch are available on freeview we are thinking of getting this. So what I want to know is does anybody know of a good freeview hard drive recorder, with dual tuner and dvd rewriter included. There seems to be a few knocking about around the £400 mark, but could anybody recommend the best one.

Cheers

Paul

I would most definitely go with Panasonic on this. Have you ever looked at a Pansonic forum? It`s like a ghost town! Why? They don`t get complaints!!!

Here`s a new model which looks a cracker! They also do a 250GB version for the wealthy!

I would look at the topfield tf5800, you can get an interface similar to sky plus, by use of a programme called a tap installed(mystuff). However it dosent come with a dvd recorder, but you can transfer you recorded programmes onto you pc or the other way round. It does record them in its own format but theres a couple of programmes that will convert to mpeg format so you can burn onto dvd if you choose. The box will also play mp3`s and jpegs. I used to have sky plus, have not looked back after getting this. Also the humax 9200t is showing its colours after a few bugs but still has no dvd recorder. Both priced between the £220-250 mark. Just a couple of different options for you to look at.
