Looking for a good DVD recorder

RichKS (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 31st July 2006, 11:34

Hi all,

I`m looking for a new DVD recorder. I have Sky+, so I don`t need a hard drive. It must be Region free. It would be super nice if it played DivX/Xvid files too. Needs to have RGB scart. Component/progerssive and all that is a nice bonus, but probably not essential since the current TV doesn`t support that.

Looking in the sub £300 range.

Thanks in advance

Rich

At the moment, top brands seem to be steering clear of DivX playback. :/

However, a top spec DVD recorder without DivX would have to be this Panny: www.sselectricals.com/model.php?ID=2630 for just £223.79 inc delivery.

Multiregion, multi format, all the inputs and outputs you could want, including HDMI HD-upgrading! And even an inbuilt Freeview tuner to record from.

However, if you want the DivX Playback, perhaps you would consider the Samsung here: www.kelkoo.prcdirect.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=DVDR129 - a pinch at a mere £115, although it only records to DVD-R/W.

The only other alternative I feel able to mention is Liteon. You have the LVW-5115GHC+ and the DD-A100X to choose from, which are both multiregion (with a remote hack) and both record to DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W, but the DD-A100X also records to DVD+R DL discs if you can afford them! Both are available from around £100, which is such a bargain!

See them here: www.liteonit.eu/

I`m sure you`ll find something to suit your needs - there`s so much out there to choose from! :D
