My father-in-law just bought a Grundig 32inch. I think they are between £7-800. I didn`t hold out much hope but have to admit the picture quality is every bit as good as my 28 Sony W/s. Totally flat screen. I do swear by Sony right enough.
Not at all sure about Pal60 though. If it plays NTSC broadcasts ( at 60 hz) then shouldn`t it play pal60?

As regards hz rating - this is the no of times per second that your screen tries to update the image. 100 hz in theeory should be better but I dont think any broadcasts take advantage of this refresh rate.
Films at the cinema refresh 24 times per second. This is all your eye needs to be convinced that you are seeing a moving image. Something to do with retina memory or the like.
So even with 50hz this is `double` the speed of your eye.
Unless anyone can tell me otherwise this is a gimmick to sell more TV`s.

The manufacturers would suggest that 100Hz pictures (to quote the Toshiba brochure, for example) "provide a significant improvement in picture quality. Flickers are dramatically lessened, poor quality source material can be reproduced clearly and moving images are smoother with sharper outline."

Punters on the other hand will complain of picture "smearing", particularly on fast moving pictures (eg sport, action flix), so it`s very much an acquired taste - personally, I`m not too impressed with it.

If you`re hell-bent on a Tosh, you can do much better than the Tosh 28Z13B - try the 28Z07B - the specifications are a cut above the `13 such as ProLogic, rear speakers, component video inputs, subwoofer out terminal but it`s only 50Hz (no great shakes in my opinion), and (if you shop around) a lot cheaper : £567 including delivery from http://www.hed.co.uk/showitem.asp?CAT=50&PID=1363 - this is the TV I want !

Well I always prefered 50hz since the picture always looked nicer and better.

But yesterday I was in Asda checking out there widescreen collection and they had one 28inch Scheinder Widescreen 100hz TV and I looked at it and wondered why the picture was so bright and solid compared too the other Widescreen TV sets including the Philips 28inch one.

I couldnt belive it the colours were more colourful and it just looked as if it was a solid picture, it looked much better then the other 50hz TVs.

BUT then I moved close up too it and then saw the pixel/blocks and even jerkiness !

(I had no idea what hz it was)

It looked dam good from far but close up totaly disgusting, while the 50hz TVs looked smooth and nice images.

But just goes too show if one played a DVD im sure the picture would be amazing!

Not bad for a £340 TV:)

I think long term wise its wise too go 100hz if u can get a good set though.

Another thing alltogether, but when i`ve been to shops like Dixons to look at a few Wide Screen TVs, they arnet even connected to a decent source that provides a good quality picture i.e DVD Player, so the picture on the screen looks crap.

The biggest selling point on the `07 over the `13 is the component video socketry : future-proofing should you buy a DVD player with the relevant sockets out (eg Wharfedale M5, Toshiba SD210E) : miles better in terms of picture quality :-)

Heres Westy!

In reality, 100hz makes very little difference to watching dvd`s(which lets face it, makes up 90% of the reason you buy the telly in the first place!). On my 32" Tosh for example, switching 100hz on ADDS flicker, due to the hi resolution nature of the picture. Leaving the set to natural scan makes the picture so much smoother, movement across the screen is better and more cinematic and large patches of colour such as walls and sky don`t smear or block. I`ve always viewed this way, and the only tiny difference i`ve noticed is that on some really well authored animation dvd`s (Tarzan, Dinosaur and Toy Story 2 to name a few), it can subtly sharpen up the finest of details, but that is about it. Dont be put off by a tv that has JUST 50 hz, you`d be doing the set an injustice.
