Bush Pro 300 Set-up Question

norman stone (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 29th December 2001, 12:37

I have a toshiba sd110 which I believe has a built in 5.1 decoder (please correct me if I`m wrong).

I just purchased the Bush Pro 300 (£60 from Safeways).

How do I connect the two together?

Do I need an amplifier? I assumed the Bush has one built in.

I have searched the forums for advice on the Bush Pro 300 and no-one has mentioned the need for an amplifier. The user-guide states that it just plugs into the back of a dvd player.

Basically, the sub-woofer has 3 sets of cables (front, rear, centre/sub-woofer) and each of these has 2 jacks (red & white). But the toshiba only has 2 audio-out sockets.

What am I doing wrong?

If I need an amplifier can someone recommend a decent BUT cheap one with dts etc etc.

Maybe the Bush Pro 300 isn`t such a bargain if you need to buy an amplifier???

Shouldn`t need an amp.

Just get some phno type leads and connect the `Left & Right` from your DVD to the same on the Bush, poss on the sub?

Let us know what its like when its running.

I don`t know how to do it basically. There are 3 leads coming from the sub-woofer and these need to be connected to the dvd. (So the user-guide shows).

But where, only God knows.

I can attach either the two rear or front speakers into the 2 holes in the back of the dvd but not everything at the same time ie. 6 jacks.

From the sound I get, I`m quite impressed but that`s only from 2 speakers!!

Errr don`t quite understand that.

I have the following on the back of the dvd:

3 sockets for video out

2 sockets for analog audio out (left and right)

1 socket for bitstream/pcm audio out

Ahhh, what I do have is a lead which came with the dvd player itself.

One lead with 3 jacks at each end. Red, white and yellow.

Maybe I should be using this, red for left, white for right (or vice versa) and yellow for the something else?

Basically, I`m stuck.

I don`t want to take it back as it`s a nice looking piece of kit but for the life of me I can`t get it to work.

ps. Is the toshiba sd110 a 5.1 player? I assumed it was.

Hello their Norman, Thanks for the e-mail. I have replied here to help others but I have also e-mailed this to you as well :)

Ok the reason that the player will not work with the main unit is because the player does not have an inbuilt 5:1 decoder. The system you got from Safeways does not have a decoder in built either (as mullyy pointed out) and I know for certain that the Toshiba`s do not have them built in. All we have on our Toshibas are left/right phono connections :(

Unfortunatly this is one area where the Toshibas seem to fall a little :( I wish they would put a decoder on. Unfortunatly there is not really a lot you can do with your system untill you get a 5:1 decoder - it may work out very expensive this way :(

Here`s a few things that I will clear up for you.......

"One lead with 3 jacks at each end. Red, white and yellow."
- This is a 2 phono connector with a componant video (the yellow cable), this is used if you want to connect through a different socket to your scart.

"I don`t want to take it back as it`s a nice looking piece of kit but for the life of me I can`t get it to work."
- Take a look around for a decoder, there are some good ones out their. E-mail me again and I will send you a few I think are good. (- it would take me ages to type it here!!) Whatever you do, keep the player.

The SD100 differs also from the SD110 in that the SD100 had an optical out but for some reason they replaced it on the SD110 with a Digital coaxal out. Why? I`m not sure.

Ok, if you have anymore questions about the Player just ask, everyone gets confused now and again, me more than most.....but I know my Toshibas :)

Hope this helps,
