NTSC on a Philips widescreen

mincer (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 24th January 2002, 17:05

I now want to order some region 1 dvds to watch. I have a dvd player capable of playing any region and RCE ( its a Eclipse 695 from richer sounds). The only problem i have is that i am not sure if my tv will play the ntsc signal. The tv is a Philips 32PW6332/25. Its the black one, 32" with dolby pro-logic decoder onboard. Has anyone had any experiance with this tv as i do not want to order a dvd which i cannot watch. the dvd is connected to the tv by scart. The tv is around 3 years old and the bloke in richer sounds said that most expensive tvs will play ntsc (this cost £1000). I do not know anybody with a region 1 dvd, nor are there any dvd import shops which i am aware of nearby(Norwich).
Any info would be great =)

Don`t worry - this t.v. will be able to play an NTSC dvd. The only problems you might have is if you need it to play a "true" 3.58 NTSC signal such as a modified GameCube or other American/Japanese electronic products.

i have a philips widescreen pw6315 and mine is multistandard so ntsc is no-problem. i used to have a nokia tv with prologic and that was 6 years old and again no-problem with ntsc. regarding dvd import shops there only one i know of and thats in huddersfield. i use either www.cdwow.com or play247.com both are very good and cheap and a very quick deliveries . if look on "bargain buckets" you will see what others think
