Page 1 of Difference between pro logic and 5.1 ?

I`m interested in buying a new goodmans surround system. It`s the right price and it looks good. It`s a powered amp, centre,L+R and 2 rears for £139.00. I think it`s called the GHC50.
However it doesn`t decode 5.1.
It`ll do 5.1 if the player does, but my Tosh 210 doesn`t.
The Goodman`s bumf says if it doesn`t receive a 5.1 signal it`ll do it in pro-logic.
What exactly will be the result ? Will certain speakers be redundant ?
Is pro-logic crap compared with 5.1 ? All I want is cheap surround....would I notice the difference between pro-logic and 5.1 in a `blind` test ?
RE: Difference between pro logic and 5.1 ?
The simple answer to whether you`d notice a difference in a blind test is a resounding, oh yes indeedy, guvnor.
ProLogic is essentially four signals : front left, front right, centre and a combined mono rear speaker track.
Conversely, DD or dts have independent rear left and rear right channels (and it does make a world of difference), as well as an independent Low Frequency Effect channel (the 0.1 bit of 5.1), or more commonly known as a subwoofer : your grunty, bassy explosive bits, fed to preferably an "active" subwoofer (one with it`s own amplification on board).
Avoid the Goodman, and go for a package that can handle a digitial or coaxial digital cable - buying ProLogic is pretty much a waste of money if you want the real deal as far as home cinema is concerned.
