Which £600 Widescreen To Compliment Toshiba SD-210E Multi Region ?

Banksy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 9th February 2002, 00:04

I`ve got arround £600 to spend :-
Only want 50Hz, Must support NTSC, Have 2 SCARTS (1 RGB)
Sound not important - got dolby pro-logic hi-fi
Using IXOS fully wired SCART, IXOS RCA & speaker cables
Must have a nice non-bulky stand

Do you recommend a 28" flatscreen or 32" non-flat screen ?

I`ve spent weeks reading reviews in mags & checking web prices

Good sets in this price range seem to be :-

Philips 28" & 32" PW6006`s (non-flat) £399 / £589
Philips 28PW6515 (flat) £589
Panasonic TX28PL1 (flat) £550
ALL with stands

I`d rather have 32" than 28" BUT ONLY if the picture is not noticeably
poorer & I can`t afford a pure flat 32" anyway

Anyone got any of the above tv`s ? Advice greatly appreciated

Toshiba 28Z07B £550 from http://www.hed.co.uk - utilise your component video connections.

Cracking picture, allegedly (this is the TV I want to upgrade to, anyways)

Well I went non-flat 32" in your situation, and got the Panasonic TX32DK1 with stand for £512 from http://www.qed-uk.com.
I`m v pleased with it - you do notice the curve slightly when sitting "off axis", but I decided I would prefer size to flatness. Mind you, our room is quite large, so that also pushed me towards the 32"
I can only suggest you go and have a look at some sets - our nearest Tesco Extra (Brookfield centre, Chesunt) had the Philips 6006 in stock and on display.
Also try http://www.unbeatable.co.uk for prices

I bought a Phillips 28PW6305 about 12 months ago, and love it. I`m not certain but I think the 6006 is a very similar box. Highly recommended if so.

If you can stretch to £650 I bought a Panasonic TX28-PL10. Its 100hz and the picture is stunning. Its Nicam, not a problem as you are using a pro logic set up and makes a great monitor.Mine came with a Panasonic DVS-RV31 for an extra £120, its probably not as good as the Toshiba but is pretty good value for money in this set up I bought at UK Discount, I think www.empiredirect.co.uk are doing a good deal also on this set.

I`m currently looking for a TV too, and have been looking at the JVC28WFT1, £500 from tesco.com and in-store at Comet

I have a Toshiba 210E into a 28" Hitachi C28W511TN which I got for £499 including smart silver and glass stand.
It`s got dolby pro-logic virtual surround sound. No external speakers and definitely better than normal Nicam. If you situate it in a corner the built-in rear speakers do quite a good job with explosions and stuff, bouncing them off the walls.
Absolutely fantastic picture on SKY through AV1 ( RGB ) and my 210 through AV2 ( S-VHS ).
Great looking TV and p*** easy to use. Even the missus can use it no probs......
My mate bought one as well 2 weeks ago after looking at Philips etc.
He`s chuffed also.

just ordered a Tosh 32z17b flatscreen from Electrocentre in Dunstable - bit dearer than your budget at £730 but this is delivered to your door. 32", flatscreen and component inputs. £270 cheaper than Comet.www3.netspin.co.uk/electrocentre
