What you are asking is quite obscure.

I would hazard a guess that not many people on here download firmware to upgrade or modify players.

It just seems too tricky and too risky, who knows what you could be downloading ?

So much better to just buy a modified player !

So don`t expect too many replies !

Where are you getting the firmware from - is it official ?

Upgrading firmware usually relates to flashing an EEPROM installed on the player`s processor board - are you sure the Philips deck has one ?

I deal a lot with flashing EEPROMs as my website (http://www.area450.com ) relates to Sampo, who manufacture players in taiwan but ship them all around the world. From 2000 onwards the company have installed flashable EEPROM as a matter of course.

Flashing the player via CD-R is relatively safe as long as you know what you`re doing.

We have a specific section at the website for this purpose, but these instructions can only ever relate to Sampo players :

http://www.area450.com/firmware/burnfirmware.htm

If you can tell me the name of the file, I may be able to help, but as Chris notes above, if you get it wrong you can trash your player.

Why do you need to upgrade the firmware out of interest ?

Any probs that you want to discuss off the board, e-mail me : styalc[at]moc.054aera

No charge, incidentally - I run an independent fansite, and am happy to help you as far as I can !
