Picking up freeview with an indoor digital aerial
My new HD TV has built in freeview so I bought an indoor digital aerail. I never had 1 on my roof. It does not seem to pick up any channels. It is supposed to be amphilied. The lead is male to male and very short so I cannot put it very high or far from TV. Is there anything I can do to help pick up my signal. I have looked into haing 1 put on roof which I share with 3 other flats, got a quote of £168 which is a lot of money. The other flats have sky TV

Usually those wee aerials are hit and miss and depends if you are in a good signal area or not.
If you want to try it elsewhere in your room nip to your local Poundland/Poundworld and they have extension kits for a quid.
Basically it`s a male to male aerial lead with a double female to join them, if you have an old viceo RF cable lying around they were usually male to female and can do the same thing.

what Jimbo said... i have three sets each with differing degrees of success when it comes to getting a signal or pictures... two on the same side of the house get different stations!

Another tip for this, if you can access someone else`s aerial locally to tune the set in first then you can experiment with places to site your aerial at home using the TV built in signal strength meter if it has one, if it doesn`t then you can see how much the picture blocks and freezes.

Watching a screen meter while aligning a aerial or dish unless through a window is a real pig. These might suit you better at 15 & 20 quid respectively.

Usually while tightening up the bolts can drop the signal down so you may need to find a sweet spot that`s low, but comes in high as the bolts affixed.
Hope that helps.

Thought he was looking to bolt an external one or some such on balcony as indoor aerials really are a waste of time IMHO, they were bad enough in analogue days.
Actually the closest you get to an aerial is a Shaw or Bell dish on the outside, most places are cable fed.
