Page 1 of LG OLED65C16LA - Repair or not...

So... Feb '18 shelled out for a LG TV which had 2 repairs under warranty, when it was returned the 2nd time the screen was damaged in transit so they replaced it in July '21 with a brand new TV (OLED65C16LA).

Last night it was working fine then this morning the red power light wasn't there and TV won't switch on. Spoke with LG who said as the "TV" is over 6 years based on original purchase date they'll need to charge £509 for an engineer to address/fix the issue. I'd be more annoyed if I'd actually purchased the TV 3 years ago and this happened but as it is I've had it since 2018 so can't complain too much.

Question is...worth the repair costs or just put the money towards a new one with 6yr warranty? Seems like such a waste of a top end TV.

I suppose it depends on how much you love this particular television, and how much a new one would cost. Some older appliances do things that newer ones don't, they won't be monitoring your viewing habits and phoning home every night, selling streaming services you don't need.

A new 65 inch OLED from LG that I can see is around £2300, £2,239.00 from John Lewis with a 5 year guarantee, seems to be the cheapest from the top three clicks on a websearch.

I guess it depends on how long a repair will last. If the TV still does everything you need, all the apps still work, then I'd be tempted to get it repaired if the repair is less than a quarter of a new TV. But that's just me.

The C1, as I'm sure you know, is a fantastic TV!
Its replacement is the C4 - the G4, linked above, is the slim, designed to be wall mounted model.  I know your screen is only a few mm thick, but has a thicker part at the bottom (I have the CX (previous year's model) which is pretty much the same).
Personally, I'd be loath to pay £509 for a fix and would look maybe for a used one.  I've seen used 65 C1's go for not far off that money - sometimes with the remainder of warranty.  Or would the repair give another warranty on the TV?
A little googling suggests it's a power supply unit issue and easily fixed.

That is quite the price to fix it! That's a "we actually don't want to fix it, we want you to buy a new one" price. It's probably something simple in the PSU too, if it's not just the fuse in the plug? Have you double checked it's not that?

For the repair cafe? Zero seconds, but what do you expect for free. For an independent engineer, you'll have to ask them.

Thanks everyone.

I've tried different sockets and also swapped out the 10A fuse to see if that was the issue but sadly not. That's as far as my electronic skills go!

I'll try some independent repair companies and see what prices they come back with.
