Page 1 of Philips 6515 28 inch

Due to size/price constraints a 28 inch set is all I can fit in.
Does anyone have anything good/bad/ugly to say about the 6515.
I noticed that Philips have another model - 5407(in ROI) or summat like that and the prices are relatively similar , but the 5407 is not flat tube..... or should I be looking at something else at this same pricepoint Euro 1000/ with stand.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you look at some older threads on this forum you`ll see that the 6515 seems to have what people call an ` artifact ` problem.
Unwanted shapes/coloured lines appearing on the screen, especially during scenes with flashes and rapid action like fight scenes in Blade.
Some people were blaming their DVD players, but it`s definitely a known problem with the 6515.
I decided against buying one for this reason.

I have a 32pw6515 - wouldnt buy one again given the choice.
When the picture is good it is excellent but when it is bad it is really bad.
Just how much are you planning to spend? 1000 Euros is £650ish - should be able to get some really good 28" models for that. I had a Panasonic 32DK1 for a week before I got the 6515. The tube was Nearly Flat but the picture was superb without any problems. I definitely preferred the Nearly Flat 32DK1 over the Totally Flat 6515.

I dont know what the web prices are like in ROI or whether any of the UK webshops ship to ROI. Check some of the following:

The above sites have 28" Panasonic and Sony items for around your budget level. On Panasonics avoid any 100hz models - some reviews I have read suggest that their 50hz models have been generally better.

Well - I`ve just bought the Philips 32PW6515, and the picture is fantastic (especially through RGB) - there`s no problems at all. I much prefer it over my previous TOSHIBA 32Z13B - the picture, design, and especially the features are waaaay better! The Toshiba only had 4:3 and 16:9 zoom for watching standard/analogue broadcasts, while the Philips also has 14:9 and a continuous zoom (to gradually make a 4:3 picture bigger) - I wouldn`t buy a widescreen TV without this function!!.

As for any problems with the Philips 6515, it could have just been a bad batch!? I told the bloke in Currys about this reported problem, and he said it should have been rectified by now - if I wasn`t happy, I could swap it or have a refund. He also gave me his full name and said to report back to him personally if anything were wrong.

I am using an RGB connection too (also tried SVHS and nonRGB Scart as well).
I tried returning mine to HiSpek but they sent an engineer out who claimed the set was `operating within specification`. So HiSpek refused to accept it was faulty.
As I said when the picture is good it is very good, but it can be equally bad.

I bought a 28PW6515 a yr ago with 5 years guarantee, delivery all for 490 quid. One way to get free guarantee and delivery is to find a place that does it real cheap and get either debenhams or john lewis to match it, they will and through in free guarantee. u could always take out a store card at the same time - they usually give u 10 per cent off as well. I like it, it was the best price I got could for a flatscreen at the time. The sound is good as well. I decided to hook it upto a home cinema all in one kit and now its wicked.

Having experienced one of John Lewis` guarantees ( 2 years on DVD players,5 years on TV`s ) lately, I wouldn`t wipe my backside with it.
What a bleedin fight I had getting a replacement DVD player, when the broken one was only 1 month over it`s year.
Take your chances and get one off the net at rock bottom prices.

Chickenboy, if you read various reviews you`ll find that the Panasonic PL1 is one of the best, if not THE best 50hz set going. It`s only Nicam, so no surround modes, but if you use a separate surround system then no problem. I`m yet to be convinced about 100hz sets, and I find Philips` sets particularly prone to digital artefacting, although you can feel like the boy in the "Emperor`s new clothes" when you point it out to Philip`s lovers! I`m going to buy the 32" PL1 from Empiredirect, as it`s only £680ish, and I believe the 28" model is in the £400`s area, for a quality real flat screen that`s a great buy!! Anyway, you pays your money.......................... Roger.

Now here is another- I have a Kenwood Dolby Pro Logic amp and my DVD has Dolby Digital and DTS - so, do I now plump for a 5.1 system and use my kenwood for music or just get rid of the kenwood altogether, as I mentioned b4 size constraints and all, not to mention the unbelievable amount of cabling hiding behind my set up.

I also have a pioneer 6 disk CD.(14 years old and still the original laser/spin motor combo-and no problems) the DVD is MP3 compatible so do I just transfer everything onto several CDrs and play via the DVD...
You get the general idea....
How do you route cabling when you have concrete floors,by the way?

You buy some of that wonderful flat self adhesive cable.
Then you either stick it to your concrete floor, or your walls/skirtings.I believe it can be overpainted as well.
