A very easy question .. HONEST !!
I know I sound `dense` but I`m new to the surround sound game !!
I have a Pioneer 515 DVD Player, just about to order the Mission FS2-AV Surround Sound Speaker Package and would like to order a good quality DTS Receiver or Amplifer ....
The question is do I need a Receiver or Amp ??!!
I`ve already had a look around for the best prices .. for both .. just incase and Richer Sounds seems to have some real bargains.
I would appreciate it if anyone in the know could check out their website and point me in the right direction ...
Cheers in anticipation ..

Don`t worry, it`s not as silly as it sounds. This is a common area that people get confused over :
Receiver : an amplifier with a radio tuner installed
Amplifier : an amplifier with no radio tuner installed
How much do you want to spend ?
Up to £250, we`re talking the soon to be withdrawn Yamaha DSPAX620 (no receiver), Denon AVR1602 (receiver) or Marantz SR4200 (receiver).
Any help ?
RE: A very easy question .. HONEST !!
Thanks Clayts, think thats made it a little bit clearer, glad you mentioned the Yamaha, that what I had my eye on !!
Cheers again ......
Yeah : cracking amp, but now in the throes of being replaced by the much more expensive DSPAX630SE.
The only drawback with the `620 is that it does not feature Dolby Pro Logic 2, which can transform VHS and normal/digital TV, turning it into a pseudo 5.1 surround sound experience : a very snazzy feature, which both the Marantz and Denon boast.
I`m a hardened Yammy fan, altho` even I`m warming to the Marantz as my next AV amp.
I think £249 for the `620 is a cracking deal, however :-)
Hello Mr Clayts,
Which Marantz are you warming to ? The SR4200 or the SR5200 ?
I almost regretting not going the extra few bucks for the 5200 because of the 6 Channel input, for DVD-A (the 4200 doesn`t have them) and the 5200 has EX/ES I believe too.
Hope you make the right choice.
Neil
Yeah, the SR5200 is the one taking my fancy. Westy can be very persuasive on the telephone :-)
