Anyone got the Velvet Revolver album??
As per title really......:D
My brother in law booked us tickets for September (I think!) - it`s the band that has Duff McKagan, Slash & Matt Sorum in.......
It`s just that we were both HUGE Guns and Roses fans when we were younger (went to both the Wembley concerts - still got the teeshirts! :D) and we are hoping they are halfway as good, even (dare I say it...) better!
I will pick up the album this weeekend, but was wondering if anyone is already listening.
Nice one!

RE: Anyone got the Velvet Revolver album??
I have it, listened to it a few times now.
The stand out track for me is `Set me free` from The Hulk soundtrack.
Its a good album, most of the tunes sound like you could be listening to Guns n Roses until you hear someone else singing.
Where are you seeing them in concert? are they doing a UK tour?
RE: Anyone got the Velvet Revolver album??
I think I`m gonna sound patronising now, honestly that`s not my intenion, but not sure how else to describe it!
The album is a straight forward rock album, so if you like that sort of thing still, you`ll like it `cos it does it very well.
I mean I also used to love G `n` R, saw em at Wembly twice, but have out grown that sort of thing, don`t listen to it any more.
Saying that I did like Stone temple Pilots back then, and their singer is the Velvet Revolver singer, and I think he does a good job.
if you have broadband there`s a fe live songs on videos floating about you can dl, some G N R covers amongst others

This one is on my `to buy` list. I`ve read some pretty postive reviews, regarding this album, so I will no doubt get it very soon. I saw G `n` R at Donington a few years ago, but never got to see STP (not that I remember, anyway!).
What I`ve heard from the album, so far, sounds promising

I got it, mainly due to pure nostalgia. Its O.K and mostly sounds like the STP when they were still good (I.E purple and core). Scott Weiland still has `It` and the rest of the old G n R lot can still spank a plank. I think people in their late 20`s early 30`s (like me ;) ) will go teary eyed.
Its nothing ground breaking, but as far as flogging dead rock horses is concerned, im sure its a thousand times better than `Chinese Democracy` will be.
Although my copy had the gimpy copy protection thing which meant my computer wasnt keen on it, but its easily circumnavigated.
What im listening to (if youre interested)
RE: Anyone got the Velvet Revolver album??
Nick, likening it to `Core` etc has made me want to buy it even more now! :D

RE: Anyone got the Velvet Revolver album??
erm....ahem..........
Well, i meant it sounds more like core than most of their other albums (i.e just straight out rock and roll), but Core actually s***s on it from a very great height.
Its worth getting for the completist, but after a few listens its unfortunately been filed away in the `meh` pile.

Hey Hick.
Thanks for being a tad more in-depth, I shall have a think about it, now! I`ll no doubt end up buying it, sooner or later, though!

Sorry 6(SIC)6, I haven`t been able to post for the last coouple of days, and I haven`t seen my brother in law either and he never said where it was we were watching them!! But I do remember him saying that it was a tour....
I`ll find out and get back to you fella......by the way, we went to the Docklands GnR concert recently (the one where it`s just Axl left out of the original band) and it was fookin` great :D:D
Hopefully let you know this evening....

RE: Anyone got the Velvet Revolver album??
I`ve been listening to it on and off for the last couple of weeks now and it definitely sounds more like an older STP album than a new GnR one. Scott Weiland has never sounded better and you can definitely tell Slash is in there too as there are some great guitar hooks - the last song (Loving the Alien) - not including the live bonus track - has a guitar riff that I just can`t get out of my head... bit like the intro to Sweet Child of Mine... the album comes recommended but to be honest I was expecting something a little heavier.
