Bryan Mcfadden...somebody please stop encouraging him!

Sue Davies (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 16th December 2004, 19:00

Just thought I`d get that off my chest...

At least when he was in Westlife there was only one bad album at a time!

I have to switch the radio off when his songs come on-I can recognise them even if I`ve never heard them before.

I blame Louis Walsh and will not be sending him a Christmas card this year.

Anbody else have an `artist` that immediately makes them switch off ?

Yeah loads:

Brian Macfadden ("look I`ve got stubble" - I`m credible, uhhhhhhhh no you`re not)
Busted
McFly
Anybody from a reality music show.
Westlife (jesus, talk about flogging a dead horse)
The new band aid single (I`ll give you £4 to shut the f*** up :o )
Robbie Williams (Am I the only one who just doesn`t get it?)
Most dance music (used to like it - just all sounds the same now :/ )
Anyone with the surname Bedingfield (no more - please)
Ronan Keating
Cliff Richard
Erm..............most `pop` music :/

I could go on for hours (nice thread BTW, very therapeutic :) )

At least Cliff Richard writes his own music and has been going for almost 50 years!!! How many of those acts that you`ve mentioned would still be going for that long?

Do you know how long it would have taken for just one of these protein molecules to appear entirely by chance? Roughly ten to the two hundred and forty-third power billions of years. And I find that far, far more fantastic than simply believing in God.

You may think that`s bad, but I saw Band Aid 2 from 1989 on VH1 the other day. An awful mix of pop stars - Kylie & Jason, Bros, Cliff and worst of all Sonia. I seem to be in the minority, but I like Band Aid 20. As for Brian McFadden ...negative press, bad singles. He`ll probably last about as long as Steve from X Factor.

McFly

It`s easy to dismiss McFly, but if you actually listen to their music, it is undeniably catchy. In fact, Obviously is one of the best songs I`ve heard for a long time. Plus they do write their own songs and play their own instruments. Judging from the interviews I`ve read, they also seem to be quite up on their musical history. There`s no doubting that they are heavily influenced by The Beach Boys.

Busted is another matter though. It is plain to see that they don`t play their own instruments, and although they claim to write their own songs, I find it hard to believe. They may "co-write" some of them, but all that involves is suggesting a single word! Whether that matters or not is debatable anyway. But on simply musical terms, I would choose McFly every time.

Apart from that though, I`d agree with everything else on your list! :D

Well according the booklet for the new Busted DVD (hey, I had to review it, ok?) there is a lot of co-writing going on within the Busted back catalogue. That said, some of the co-writing is done with one of the guys from McFly and some of the songs are done by just some of the band members.

You could look at it from the other side in that Busted create really simple song structures and just need someone to put some meat on the bones. Ergo someone outside the band ends up with a song writing credit...

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

I have been thinking for a while, should it not be "everybody" instead of "somebody" Just a thought.

All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

Fair point. I still don`t believe that Busted play their guitars though, but maybe that`s unimportant?

Actually, I`d take McFly (and Busted to a lesser degree) over the likes of Westlife and Bryan McFadden every day of the week. If a young kid listens to McFly, he/she might go on to check out The Beach Boys, which might lead them on to The Byrds and The Beatles, etc.
