Is that without a monitor?
At www.novatech.co.uk there is this spec for £844
Standard Specification...
3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4 800MHz FSB
1024MB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive 7200rpm 8MB Cache
128MB DDR GeForce FX5700 AGP Card
Sony 4x Dual Format +/- DVD Burner
16x DVD-ROM Drive
6 Channel Audio Sound
1 x RJ45 Network Port (10/100)
56K Modem
You would have to pay another £50 or so for Windows XP, but you`ve got twice as much RAM, a much faster video card, a faster hard disk and a DVD burner.
All very interesting I`m sure. However, I`m sure that this thread will reach `BBC` proportions if the benefits of one PC component against another is discussed. The machines mentioned do offer good value but in today`s PC market place do they really qualify as bargains?
And there`s still the Tchibo Laptop at £899.

its a pretty tasty spec.
VROOM VROOM!!
".. another ?50 or so for Windows XP"
Not really necessary if you`re replacing an existing PC. Windows 98 is still perfectly usable, and since Microshaft belatedly realised that if they stopped supporting W98 (as they had planned to do from January this year) people might replace it with Linux, which is not as hardware hungry, they have extended the support/critical updates for at least another 2 years (and then you can buy Linux...).
Meant to add, have a look in Micro Mart, out on Thursday, for the current state of prices. I wouldn`t pay more than 500 notes for a desktop computer at the moment, unless it was VERY special.

Yep, I can`t argue with that. Just thought it was useful information if he was going to directly compare systems.
Picked up an Aldi`s flyer this morning and they are going to be selling a pc again from April 1st , there was no mention of price / spec but they are normally very good value , might be worth waiting for a couple of weeks.
