Anybody had their NTL broadband speed increased yet?

skirpy (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 15th June 2004, 06:32

I notice that i am getting charged £37.99 this month for my 1mb broadband connection, i thought this happened when my speed was increased to 1.5mb?

Has anyone had their speed increased yet?

Thanks for the reply!

NTL speed increases are due to be rolled out during the summer. Guess that means July/August time. The ntl web site says that customers will receive communication in advance of the speed increase.

The price increases, which take effect June 1st 2004, are unrelated to the speed increases.

Broadband - 1MB Service increased Was: £34.99 ¦ New: £37.99
150/600K Broadband Services stay same - No change
NTL "Unlimited" dial-up Service increased Was: £10 ¦ New: £12.49

For less than what you are paying now I would recommend you go with Bulldogs Primetime2000 package (if you are within Greater London).

£29.99 inc VAT
Min 12 months contract
2 Mbit downstream (6pm - 8am)
512 kbit downstream (8am - 6pm)
256-400 kbit upstream

Been with them since last September - no problems, I was getting 225k/s download last night!

My Aunt finally joined the 21st century at the weekend by getting 600K from NTL. The engineer said the upgrades would be rolled out in August (3 months after their rival telewest!)

There`s rumours abound that the 1 MB NTL service will actually go up to 2 MB to match their so-called rivals Telewest.

I keep thinking mine has but then it gets snatched away. A download will shoot above 100kbs for 5 minutes then crash back down to 70. Its so cruel....

Oh, and Skirpydoink, phone NTL and tell them you want to downgrade your package to 600k. Tell them that you arent paying a surcharge for a service you arent getting.

Best case, they will tell you exactly when the roll out will be to keep you paying the big bucks, worst case, you downgrade for a few months until they pull their finger out their collective arses.

Charging extra without providing the service is a bit sly, IMHO.

heh, don`t talk to me about NTL i got home yesterday to find my internet off, turns out my powerpack had gone tits up (cold to the touch rather than the usaul egg frying heat) rang ntl up qued (sp) for 20mins then was told someone would ring within 48hours to arrange an apointment ??? so i told them it was s*** service if i had to wait 2 days just to find out WHEN i would get an engineer ! and the average waiting time was up to 10 days (12 if you include the 2 waiting days) so i told them to shove it up there arse and cancell my contract effective imediatly (been with them 18months) then oddly enough they managed to fit me in the very next day @ 10am :/ (today) no wonder ntl where going bust with s*** service like that.

AH, LONE STAR. I SEE YOUR SCHWARTZ IS AS BIG AS MINE. ;)

LOL. Its funny what companies will do when pushed like that.

I spent an hour on hold once to telewest just to find out when they were rolling out a digital service (1999 ish). They told me that they didnt know. So i said that as i had just spent an hour on hold I might as well cancel my contract there and then and get Sky Digital. I told the lady that I could get Sky Digital within a week and their full package was a fiver cheaper than analogue cable.

unsurprisingly, she then managed to tell me to the minute when the roll out was and offered to throw in a few incentives if i would wait.

I didnt but it was a good try on her behalf ;) . Its just a shame companies dont offer this level of service straight away (my mrs starts every call to vodaphone with `Im thinking of cancelling my contract.....`)
