RE: Advice needed on which widescreen TV...
Click on the following links:-
Panasonic 28" TX28PM11 £490
Hitachi 32" C32W460N £492.98
JVC 28" HV28P37SJEC £449.95
Philips 28" 28PW8608 £489
Philips 32" 32PW6517 £479.49
Samsung 28" DVD/VCR Combi UW28J10VD £459.99
Samsung 28" with integrated Freeview WS28A116DU £442.98
Sanyo 32" 32DFN2 £449.00
Toshiba 28" 100Hz 28ZH36 £414.99
Sony 28" 100Hz KV28FX68U £474.99
Sony 28" 100Hz inc Freeview KV28DX50 £490.43
My advice is to go for the biggest screen size you can afford with 100Hz scanning.
Either the Philips 32" 32PW6517, the Hitachi 32" C32W460N, Sanyo 32" 32DFN2 are my recommendations.
The Sony KV28DX50 is quality if you don`t mind the smaller screen.
The Samsung WS28A116DU deserves a look though for the price & features.
If you want something closer to your £400 budget, with outstanding picture performance & quality, it has to be the Tosh 28ZH36.

RE: I need a cheap small multiregion dvd player. Anyone know of any bargains?
Push the boat out a bit and go for one that can play Divx movies too.
I`ve just got a Yamada 6600 from Ebay for £65 quid.
You can also get it from Maplins for £72.99 with voucher discount applied or Special Reserve for £79.99.
It`s such a bargain for what it does and how it performs - you won`t be disappointed.
RE: More cheese?
You need some of dat cheddar (wedge) to get yourself some bling in the first place.

RE: Best free adware/spyware removal safe software...?
It might seem as though I am championing and banging drums throughout various forums on this, but I would recommend using Mozilla Firefox 0.9 as your default browser because it works and does what it says on the tin.
Why?
Click Here for features inc. Popup Blocking!
For site which you wish to allow popups, it is very easy to add it to an exceptions list.
Download Firefox 0.9 from here - you`ll be glad you did!
RE: Internet Explorer 6 problem - clicking on file changes extension
With the application you want to view your media with, re-associate files.
The option should be in something like Options or Preferences or Settings menu.
In WMP9 this is under TOOLs -> OPTIONS.
RE: Where Can I Get Latest IE on CD?
Assuming you have your dial-up/broadband connection configured and you are connected to your ISP:-
If Windows is being used, then you still have some form of a browser installed.
You know My Computer or Windows Explorer (Windows Key-E)?
Simply type in a url into the Address Bar.
If Address Bar is not showing, then right click on the menu or toolbar and tick Address Bar.
You can also have an address bar on your Start Bar by doing the same.
Try www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and download Firefox 0.9 to use this as your default browser.
RE: Yahoo Mail Capacity to increase
Brian, to download your Yahoo email to keep on your local hard drive using any email client (I would recommend Mozilla Thunderbird - glad to know that you do too!), do the following:-

Start your web browser (Mozilla Firefox 0.9 is my recommendation)

Login to Yahoo UK Mail (click on the secure login)

Once the welcome screen appears, click on "Mail Options" on the top right header

Under Management, click "POP Access & Forwarding"

Change the Web & POP Access to your preferences

Click on "POP Settings" or "View POP Settings" link

You should now see details required to set up your mail account as well as instructions

Now add the Yahoo account to Thunderbird - Click here for Thunderbird Help to add new account

The "Add Account" wizard is also available from either the Tools Menu or File Preferences menu. (I can`t remember which as I have to use boring Outlook2000 at work)

You can also set you messages to be deleted from the server so that your Yahoo account is always cleaned up. I have this setting switched on at home but off at work so that I can still download to my email client at work, but still go home and redownload the messages.

Only messages to your Inbox and Bulk Mail folder are retrieved.
It works like a dream! Cannot fault it.
RE: Recommend me a Digital Camera...
Might you have been thinking about this one?
Pentax Optio 33LF from Amazon
I`m thinking of ordering either this or a Canon for the wifey`s b`day.
The free 128MB CF card with Canon sounds like an excellent deal though.
RE: Anybody had their NTL broadband speed increased yet?
For less than what you are paying now I would recommend you go with Bulldogs Primetime2000 package (if you are within Greater London).
£29.99 inc VAT
Min 12 months contract
2 Mbit downstream (6pm - 8am)
512 kbit downstream (8am - 6pm)
256-400 kbit upstream
Been with them since last September - no problems, I was getting 225k/s download last night!
More details from link below...

RE: Yahoo Mail Capacity to increase
Yep, this has always been my number 1, I just download as if it`s POP3 using Mozilla Thunderbird (great email client).
All I can say is the best just got better!
PS. It`s actually as of today, not the 16th, because I`ve logged in and it tells me how much space I have left out of 100MB

RE: Looks like it`ll have to be the next one after all !!
Toys R Us also do one for £999 with 15" TFT and HP Printer but 128MB FX5200.
The 256MB FX5600 in the £1099 offer can`t touch Aldi`s ATI 9800XL though so the Medion 8080XL is definitely a supreme deal.
RE: Looks like it`ll have to be the next one after all !!
I got mine on the first day but haven`t opened it yet in case I change my mind to get my money back. I wanted to check the reviews first.
From what I`ve read, it is incredible value. Thecomponents used are quality names albeit slightly cut-down Medion specials like the graphics card (same as ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB but with slight slower clock speed).
The stuff I`m stalling on before opening and using it are these:-

Motherboard is MSI 6747 - Mini ATX so doesn`t leave much expansion option. As far as I can see from some screenshots, there is only one spare PCI slot and that`s next to the GFX card. I would be a bit dubious to put a card there with reports of how much heat is generated by it. I might want to add in a separate soundcard (like the Audigy 2 ZS) and maybe some other cards - so there isn`t a great deal of expansion potential!
Also the origins of this motherboard were Serial ATA capable, but on this Medion special, it is disabled by some hard wiring! Would have been nice to add such a drive in the future.

HD is a Seagate with just 2MB cache - I would have preferred to have a 120GB Samsung which is supposed to be much faster overall for the same price. In fact Samsungs best value 160GB is under a ton.

Might be preferable to have the option of not having the keyboard and mouse bundled as I like to use my optical MS explorer mouse and MS Internet Pro keyboard. Was more money spent to make it totally cordless too? Very attractive to have it anyway.

Case is stylish but doesn`t seem as robust as others. Interesting idea for the exhaust port to aid silent cooling but not much scope to add more fans for overclocking potential. On the other hand, there does seem to be a lot of room to breath in the case with a spare hard disk bay if you ever wish to add an extra one. So why couldn`t they have fitted in a full size ATX board?

DVI output on GFX card should have been a must.
I`m glad they didn`t bundle the multimedia 5.1 surround speakers they have in-store with it because they look so cheap and rubbish. OK if you don`t care much for sound quality and power but those speakers are to be avoided.
If I decide to give back the PC, I`ll let you know so that you can go and grab it. (Got it from the Old Kent Rd store)

RE: Splash sale!
Oh my god - how nerve wracking. I`m usually a fan of splashDVD but it doesn`t say how or when the £2 is knocked off. Even when you go to the checkout, the price is still not reduced and it`s probably per order not per item so don`t be duped into lumping many items into 1 order!
If anyone goes through with the payment, please let us know if you did get the discount. Thanks. :o
