Hear hear! It is waste of time if you already have anti virus and firewall protection.

Same here, tried it, uninstalled it. A bag of shi*e. Never had any problems with SP1 anyway, not really sure why I bothered with SP2 in the first place. :-/

The problems you are having aren`t because of SP2 perse, but with programs that won`t run properly with it without an update.

Running without SP2 is like riding a motor bike with no crash helmet on-It plugs so many more `holes` than sp1.

I`ve installed SP2 on over 30 machines now, all of them run perfectly and are a darn site more secure.

SP1 plugs secruity gaps in Internet Explorer more than anything else, so Firefox fans can breathe easy :)

I did try to install it (has some on-chip virus protection for my Athlon 64 apparently) but the CD M$ sent me is dud and I`m too lazy to d/l it.

Clayts, do you want me to burn you a copy? I have a CD of it. If so, drop me an email with your address.

I agree totally. I`ve installed it on 5-6 PCs (all different makes/configurations) with no "real" problems on any of them.

What a lot of people perceive as bugs, are really just problems with SP2 not being configured properly (e.g. cookies aren`t enabled for a web site), or using software that isn`t XP compatible.

I don`t work for Microsoft, but I do feel that they can`t win sometimes.

A lot of people moaned that XP was unsecure. So they bring out a more secure version & then everybody moans that it`s not as simple/user friendly as before.

What did they expect :p

I haven`t had this problem, but I would guess it`s something in the start up for the "other" user that causing the crash (maybe a program that`s not XP compatible)

Try creating a new user (which does not run anything at start up) & see if that has the same problem.

Again, no I haven`t had this problem. I suspect it`s more likely to be your CD-Rs that are the problem (if it was a setting in SP2, I`d expect every CD to be duff, not just some of them)

Do the CDs play on your PC? If they do then check that you`re creating "audio CDs" and not "data CDs"
