Backing up VHS tape

Whats the best way to make backup of vhs tape onto dvd? I`ve tried to copy a damaged tape before it gets worse but the dvd recorder wont record it.

I`ve read that I might need another type of scart cable.

Standalone DVD recorder is the best way for sure-if that won`t do it (don`t know why it wouldn`t??)anything computer based won`t touch it at all.

If you are copying a commercial film, that has copy protection. You will need a lead that strips out the CP signals between the VCR & DVD Recorder.

A quick search on this site (or Google) for Sonel should put you right.

I`m able to make copies of home recorded vhs tapes onto dvd or from TV. I can`t seem to make a copy of a BBC vhs tape. I thought it might be to do with copyrite or something like that.

The VCR is connected to DVDR by a scart cable and when I record from the DVDR I select source as being from SCART

Thanks Rassilon I`ll check it out.

I have made backups of BBC tapes, only one gave me problems "Tomb of the Cyberman" which has CP on it, cheaper to buy the DVD release than the lead. :/
