USB Ports don`t want to Work

Spoonthumbs (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 27th February 2005, 21:22

Hi,

Have an Advent PC, running Windows XP SP2

Up to Xmas now problems, but since none of the USB or the built in Memory Card reader doesn`t work.

Checked ports - they all work as I have a light tester that shines when plugged in the usb port

Gone through Device Manager, and no USB devices listed - just the Hubs and controllers. Have un-installed and re-installed drivers, deactived and re-activated. No changes. updated drivers as well.

Rolled back SP2 so left with SP1 - no change.

Running out of ideas...

Problem may have occured due to a failed installation of a scanner - Have deleted / uninstalled the software, etc. Did throw up a `USB has too much power` type message. Can`t be sure that nothing has worked since, but it was around the same time.

Have I got to do something to the Registry? How do I edit this and what to if this is the solution.

Also, is the `program` `usbdetector.exe` an important one?

Thanks everyone,

Justin

Hi

Are the usb,s turned on in the bios area?Usually there is an enable / disable option for the usb,s.
No other ideas except a reload and see what happens.
But wait and see for a few days if anyone esle has an easier way to get things working.

bye

Check earlier thread

Agree about the Bios as in thread mentioned
