Its generally accepted that they sort of complement each other. One will pick up one thing the other misses and so on.

But if you dont look at much porn and you dont wildly click on urls in spam emails and your firewall is properly configured, Ad-Aware does the job fine by itself.

used to use Spybot but now use Ad-aware, but some(as above) use both. Unfortunately I can`t give a qualified opinion as to which(if any) is best.

They both find different things so best to use both, as the above have all said. My work colleague is convinced that Ad-Aware puts more spyware on a machine than it takes off. Apparently he read it on a forum and when I tried to tell him it is one of the best products around I was told to go and read the internet. :¦

I use both too, I run AdAware first, then follow up with Spybot. Spybot doesn`t normally find anything as AdAware has already got them. Spybot has a useful innoculate part to it too though were it protects against certain things in the background, and also a thing called Resident Shield which if you turn it on (it`s off by default), sits in the system tray and watches for any registry changes and asks if you want to allow it. Helps spot anything changing things without your knowledge.

As HD462, I use both. Spybot also has some other little system toys built in which can be useful. I also use SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster as well.

Incidentally, a friend of mine had his PC custom built by a mate. A year after he got it, he eventually ran Ad-Aware (at my insistence), and the performance of his comp shot up.

Then when his dial up `net connection cocked up, his mate came round and instantly blamed Ad-Aware, and removed the programme. Although I haven`t asked him, he probably can`t budge off his desktop for spyware/adware.
