Anyone recommend me an ISP?

DazMack1979 (Elite) posted this on Friday, 10th February 2006, 00:07

Currently using 2Mb unlimited Tiscali broadband for (I think) £17.99 a month, up in Aberdeen.

Ideally what I`m looking for is a provider that`ll give me an optimum download rate using torrents etc as it seems surprisingly slow (around 20 - 30Kb/s on a good day) and has a worrying tendency to drop to 0Kb/s at times while still staying connected.

I know Tiscali don`t have a great reputation so for a decent price can anyone recommend a good replacement?

I`m on Tiscali 512 unlimited (out near Peterhead ;) ), and I usually get a top end download speed of about 55 Kb/s.

They`ve got a pretty bad reputation as an ISP for torrent users, but I`ve had no problems. Well, except I`m still on 512 despite new customers in the area getting 2MB, with no option to upgrade online.

Are you sure your problems don`t lie with the seeder/leecher ratio of the torrents? (Apologies if that sounds like a response you`d give a "n00b"...)

Their LLU seems ok but their regular service seems a bit iffy.

I`ve been with Pipex more than 3 years never had a single problem with them. AOL is fine if you can connect ok, if you have problems forget it they don`t want to know. They`ll try to get you to use their bundled software too - avoid at all costs.
