Page 1 of New mobile package query - for a friend

Hello :-)

I have a friend (yes, tis true!), who is an overseas student, and she is trying to get a monthly contract with anyone (currently with Vodaphone) who can give her a good deal, but she needs to keep her old phone, and so I assume, the same number. Does anyone know of any good deals which don`t force a new phone and number onto someone?

She is currently on PAYG, but I`m a sad monthly Orange contract person myself, and am quite `happy` with that only as I can`t be arsed to look elsewhere, and can`t really give her advice. So, I thought I`d come on here and ask me favourite clever people :-).

Seems it`s £15 for the lot at the moment, but she says she tries very hard not to make any phone calls but all the new contracts she has looked at seem to force a new phone onto her, which is not really acceptable.

This is all the info I have at the moment, but if anyone has any ideas, or any questions which I should ask her (but she`s about to get this URL - doesn`t realise this yet - Hello Mel! :p) then that would be great.

*EDIT* it`s apparently not the case that a new phone is always forced upon people (I`ve just been told) but a contract without one would suit much better.

She can take her existing number over to a new provider.Speak to them. Also depending on phone they are offering her,she can sell the phone to cover the cost of her contract and keep her old phone.

YOU CAN ONLY TRANSFER NUMBERS ON PAY AS U GO NETWORKS NOT IF U ARE ON CONTRACT.
YOU HAVE TO ASK YOUR NETWORK FOR A P.A.C CODE THEN TELL YOUR NEW NETWORK BUT IT TAKES A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO GET SORTED

I don`t think you can take a Pay As You Go number onto a contract a few friends have tried this before and have not managed to do it.

I went from orange PAYG to orange contract with the same number quite easily.

as long as her existing phone is able to accept the SIM card of whoever she goes on contract with (ie it`s unlocked or the same provider as her PAYG), then she can just put the contract SIM in there and ebay the new phone.

Are you, or do you know anyone on NTL? My parents are & they were offered 300 anytime Xnet mins & 300 texts for £10.00 PCM direct debit. The beauty of it is, is it`s a 1 month rolling contract...the downside for your freind may be the banking thing? The contract is through Virgin mobile. My Dad took it out for me for my son (I pay Dad back obviously) & they even let you roll the minutes over...can`t go wrong as far as I can see...& you have the option of accepting a "Virgin lobster flip phone" (sold ours for £35.00 on ebay so it paid for a quarter years line rent straight off!) OR just take it as SIM only.
