RE: Will you be buying Windows 8 on sale this October?
I may buy it if they do the promo like they did last year where you could pre-order and get it cheap, but my PC is getting on a bit so i wouldn`t install it on the main one anyway, just did an XP re-install on it at the weekend rather than put 7 on it.

I think some are doing cheap upgrades when you buy a new computer now for like 15 quid.
Need a new laptop at some point soon so may go for windows 8. Still not sure. A lot of journos slagging it are a bit overly negative methinks.
RE: Will you be buying Windows 8 on sale this October?
I`ve used the preview a bit on my laptop, and I think it`s ok. but I just use the laptop for surfing the internet, so I turn it on, login, click on the windows desktop metro button, then open firefox and thunderbird etc as normal. For that sort of usage it`s fine, I`ve had no crashes or any problems with it at all.
I played a couple of games via the metro interface, they downloaded and installed fine.
RE: Will you be buying Windows 8 on sale this October?
I honestly think it`s dreadful. I`m sure it works great on a tablet, but it just doesn`t seem well thought out for a laptop/desktop computer.
Look at the track history of Windows releases, then decide ...
Win 3 - Bad
Win 3.1 - Good
Windows 95 - Bad
Windows 98 - Good
Windows ME - Horrific
Windows 2000 - Really good
Windows XP - initially bad...but then...
Windows XP SP2- Good.
Windows Vista - Bad
Windows 7- Good.
OK so I`ve been a little creative there with SP2 for XP, but you get the picture ;)
RE: Will you be buying Windows 8 on sale this October?
I thought Win95 was good, personally, not as good as Win98 but still nowhere near bad!
Oh and the download option via Windows.com is going to be $39.99 (hopefully not the same in pounds) and if you remember you can add Windows Media Center to your basket for free rather than pay for it on top later.
Not averse to downloading it, but I`m still going to want a physical medium for reinstallation. And there is a lot of talk about the upgrade version and if your computer requires a rebuild, if you`ll have to reinstall an earlier OS first.

I`ve only heard the name so far and have no idea what it even looks like.
Good or bad I wouldn`t buy an OS seperately, only already installed on a new machine.
So it depends whats on offer when I spring for the new desktop and what I think of it when it`s available to play with in PC World.
Snaps
Every Third Car
I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
RE: Will you be buying Windows 8 on sale this October?
Only just upgraded to widows 7 about a month ago after upgrading computer. Not quite to grips with it yet so very unlikely will I will be going for windows 8 soon. Let them sort out all the bugs first maybe then think about it in a couple of years down the line if needed.
RE: Will you be buying Windows 8 on sale this October?
Very unlikely to be buying windows 8 I`m afraid, unless I get one of those Surface things I suppose. Happy with 7 very much thank you, and my Linux too, so W8 is a completely off my radar.

After your download finishes, you can choose to proceed with the upgrade ("Install now") or install later either from your desktop or by creating your own media. If you choose to create your own media, you will be able to create your own bootable USB or .ISO file which can be burned onto a DVD for upgrade and backup purposes. If you prefer, you also have the option of purchasing a backup DVD for $15 plus shipping and handling.

If you prefer to shop at a local store, a packaged DVD version of the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will be available for $69.99 during this promotion.
