AxlRose (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 7th January 2004, 14:06

I buy nearly all my DVDs from CD-Wow.
Just thinking though, because of strong pound whether worth looking at any US sites.
Has anyone looked into this recently?

www.dvdimport.com
http://www.dvdpacific.com
www.amazon.com

Should all be cheaper , and i.m sure there are many more US sites.

P.S i have just bought a digi camera from a US web site , which saved me over 100gbp from the cheapest place i could find on a UK Web

Yup, the weak dollar is going to make all US imports to the UK much cheaper, while shafting imports (cars, technology, weapsons systems etc) and making UK and European products prohibitively expensive for customers in the US........

Yeah, but what about the VAT? I ordered from Amazon.com a long time ago, but the VAT was very expensive...well the VAT itself wasn`t too much, but the admin charge for each package was a tenner if I can remember correctly.

I have never imported anything, how much do you pay import tax wise on goods bought from the US, and do you need to pay any other charges?

ps. What was the site you bought your camera from hopethishelps ?

thanks

If buying from USA (or anywhere outside UK) always worth getting a Natiowide CashBack Credit Card, .5% cashback and no 2.75% levy on foreign transactions like every other bank do (they hide this in small print but it`s there!!)

If you`re used to buying from Cd Wow I would say that if you went to the Hong Kong page then they would be cheaper too as the Honk Kong currency is tied to the US$!!
I`m sure someone can slip in the right address but i think it`s:
http://www.cdwow.hk

but could be wrong...

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
