Page 1 of Website recommendation for Sat. Nav system - www.audio66.com??

hi all...

I`m looking for a CD player/Sat. Nav head unit such as the Blaupunkt TravelPilot E1 or
the Sony MEX 100NV.

Ive being doing some searching about on the intrenet for the cheapest site and come across a site called www.audio66.com. Has anybody had any dealings with them, what are they like etc?

Also does anyone know of anyother website that are good and reasonable on price?

Sorry John72 i have not but i came across the site aswell and i am also wondering what its like or any others. I am looking to get one for my self forchristmas (we all gotta treat ourselfs)

dunno if they do head units or not, but for normal PDA based GPS systems n stuff, globalpositioningsystems.co.uk get high praise when I was looking into a PDA type one recently.

And thats from one of their software suppliers who were tyring to help as I was returning mine to another Retailer, and it included their software which I wanted to use again...

The wife was in Aldi today and mentioned they`re doing the GPS PDA again soon (it must have been on one of those advanced leaflets or something). I got one last time, and it`s very good, the Pocket PC itself it good too. I`ve had mp3`s on it, dvds ripped to memory card to take away with you...very versatile. :)

Thankyou for your relpies, I`ll take a look. However I was wanting a head unit as I don`t want to have to carry around he front panal from my CD play and a PDA around with me, would much sooner carry a front panal from a head unit sat. nav system (sorry I should have mentioned this in my first post.)

Anyways once again, thankyou for your help. If anyone else knows of any infomation I`d be very thankfull.

You do realise, John, that in car head units are at usual, twice the price of PDA based?
They also run on CD`s/DVD`s that costa fortune to update.

They are also NO MORE accurate than the PDA based ones (more accurate due to easier and faster updating)
The newer "integrated" or "Jacket GPS" type PDA`s are actually similar in weight (slightly wider, obviously) than the head unit fascia, and can also be used for walking directions if hiking or looking for somewhere in specific that you can`t get to with the car?

Just some thoughts mate, as I need a new head unit for mine, and considered/investigated both options first and decided PDA based was the way to go for mine.

Still need to buy a new one now though, since my refund finally made it through...

Some good points there Jimbo : oÞ. Thanks. I can see now there are pros and cons to both. I still feel the head unit would be the best option for me as I would like a tidy fit aswell. A head unit fascia is more portable from my point of view. I do relise that the CD`s for head units cost upwards of about £100 from what the local dealer told me but only need upgrading about once every 2 - 3yrs he said.

That I`m not to sure on as head uints are wired to a speed sensor in the engine which make them more accurate so I`ve being told. Any more input apreachatied, thanks.

Oh, I didn`t mean on speed/location, but as you mention it, mine was accurate to "10m" according the bumf included, in actuality, I found it accurate to about FIVE FEET!
(right to the door in most cases)

What I meant by accuracy though, was the street naming and locations. PDA based systems are easier to replace the software in when a new one comes along, and if you dont like a particular version/map style etc, change to another (eg: TomTom3 I liked its maps, but street level wasnt that great, Kirrio was brilliantly simple for maps, but crap on street level, CoPilot 4 had crap maps, annoying sound but better accuracy, and CoPilot 5 is supposed to be better)

With a head unit, you have to stick to the software manufacturer being used every time.

But like you say, harder to grab n run with a head unit, and lighter to carry for the owner!

Still undecided to be honest, but the Mio168 was unbelievably easy n compact with only three real niggles:
1) annoying buzzing noise when you actuvate summat for a few seconds (only noticable in quiet times)
2) not compatible with the CoPilot Live facility ( I fancy this...get a message via mobile either from someone you know sitting at their PC or from CPL that tells you of major tailback/accident etc and re routes you around it), hence considering a cheap iPaq and a GPS jacket
3) internal GPS antenna worked well, but if cloudy or bad area, took a bit of time to lock on. Not a major gripe on that though, because it came with a plug in external that locked on in seconds!

Oh, and the windscreen mount wasn`t bad, but not long enough really. I was gonna buy a vent mount though, so that became a non issue for me too.
