PayPal for Payments? Should I Be Worried?

DVDNUTTER (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 28th October 2004, 23:49

Hi all,

Should I be concerned with a DVD Retail Site that uses PayPal and only PayPal, to process my payments? How much different are they, than say - Worldplay? After all they are an Ebay company - or is that the point?

List the site so we can check it out. Personally I wouldn`t trust a site that only allows you to pay via Paypal only, it smacks of fraud.

Paypal is a joke, Worldpay are in a completely different league.

What was your experiences with Paypal, when you say that they`re a "joke?"

Do you think? How so? But would you trust it?

I`m not positive about this, but I used to know a guy who ran a backup site, which got took down by the authorities. He then started again, under a different name, called Versatile Disc. I`ve not heard from him for at least two years; so it`s very likely this could be him. Used to be a really nice guy...

Saying that, this site, although shoddy in design, could possibly be legit. Just because they use Paypal, doesn`t make them a bad company. For example, Premodded.co.uk only use Nochex, and they are great.

I would bet that this is just some guy importing films from abroad, so it could be ok. Rule of thumb for me is, if in doubt then don`t bother.

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

I use PayPal for collecting my dosh for eBay sales. For the simple reason that it`s easier for my `world` buyers to pay.

When you the buyer pays through PayPal <-they will make a small charge (around £1) for the first transaction which you can redeem when using them again (listed on your next c/c bill with a serial number).

Now if you don`t use them again or forget to use that serial number, PayPal get to keep that quid (or so). Nice little earner if thousands of people don`t.

PayPal do have a very poor reputation. My opinion would be to use another supplier(s), unless it`s something you really must do.
