ebuyer.com: took the money and ran?

David Banner (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 23rd April 2002, 19:38

At the end of January I ordered 256Mb RAM and a hard disk, the ram arrived via GPO, the hard disk was dispatched by TNT. For reasons best known to themselves TNT tried to deliver it once and then sent it back to ebuyer less than 24hrs after they first tried to deliver it, so we never got the chance to arrange re-delivery. I contacted ebuyer who said that once they got it back, the money (£94) would be refunded and if I still wanted it I`d have to order again. A month later, no refund, I contacted them again and was told returns would deal with it as a matter of urgency. Two subsequent emails over the last two months have not been replied to and tonight their site is down. I have a horrible feeling I will never see that money again.

Well, I gave them one last chance, I emailed them last night and said if I hadn`t heard from them in 2 days I would be contacting the credit card company for a refund due to non-delivery. This morning I get an email from them saying:

"You have now had a full refund on the hard drive that was returned to us. May i apologise for the
delay in this process."

It`s a shame they couldn`t manage this without me getting stroppy. Anyone know how soon I should start hecking my online bank statement to see if they`ve actually done it :-)

Nelley,
Arent Ebuyer.com one of your competitors? One of those competitors who are often cheaper than you? The temptation to boot in must have been strong but you resisted - nice one.

You seem to know a lot about credit card refund procedures. Had a lot of experience based on with dealing with your customers? :)
Just kidding but I couldnt resist having a dig - not as strong willed as you ! Sorry.

Nelley couldn`t put the boot in cos he knows it would be the pot calling the kettle black. Scam.co.uk are notorious offenders.

Maybe that is the advice I should have taken when his company did a runner with my money - except that it was below the £50 threshold that credit card companies show interest in taking action.

Yes we have done your £27 refund. Its not in our interests to hold on to customers money as its more hassle than its worth. In your case it was a problem because of change in the software and no one couild trace it.
