Interesting developments today, including the announcement and then some strong statements from UEFA and France in particular...

Total bo**ocks.
If Kronke sells us into this I'll be watching a different sport.

VAR has been killing off any pleasure all season anyway this will just be the last nail in the coffin.
...and no I'm not saying that just on the basis of today's match.

Haven't seen anyone who is actually in favour of this...

for the big clubs to contemplate this, there must be ludicrous amounts of money involved, otherwise they wouldn't risk losing out on current competition.

There must be some pretty big brown envelopes changing hands, and crazy deals with tv networks/broadcasting rights/ppv?

all does seem a bit wishy washy on the details, and to be honest, at the end of the day, makes no difference to me :(

Agree with that...

Well... this makes a whole load of no sense at all.

Another European competition we can't win? 😂

Pardon the following waffle but it may end up just being stream of consciousness stuff.
Finished work now and sat with a mug of tea having listened to a load on the radio.

New Super Euro league so X number of teams, no relegation a la NFL (big surprise with American owners)
It's not an extra competition as the Prem won't be making allowances for fixtures, even if the breakaways are kept in which is very unlikely.

It will replace practically every other competition or league so lots of time between fixtures meaning a lot less gate receipts even if they get a full house and how many supporters are going to traipse all over Europe for away fixtures every other week. Which is more of a problem anyway now we've got our independence back (Ho f***ing ho)

If the Prem throw the teams out what happens when the Sky, BT etc Goose stops laying the golden eggs as they wont be bidding the same amount, or anywhere near, for a league with the title being fought for between Leicester, Everton, West Ham etc. Apologies to those teams but that's just a fact of life.

The idea that any players playing for these teams may be barred from playing for their national sides has been seriously floated tonight so how do any and all players contracts stand with this breakaway? Can they leave without penalty and even if not how do you attract other top players when they've gone.

My head hurts and I now need something stronger than tea if I hope to sleep tonight. So I'm going to get myself outside some of my friend Jack.

That's an interesting point, as players often have clauses that they can leave if team gets relegated, and I guess in top clubs if don't get into Europe. So if they're not in premiership, they can leave, but I guess money would be deciding factor, over whether they want to play for England and against lower table teams.

I wonder if they'd still be the same team name? i.e. would they have to change names since they're not FA, like when a video game doesn't have official license Man Utd are "red devils" etc? I guess actually that would fit in with the US style system they seem to want?

I dunno about this. I fell out of love with football when they created the Premier League, and quickly buried what used to be free to air league football behind a Sky paywall.

Twice nothing is still nothing.

EDIT: And Spurs fired Mourinho, I wonder if it's connected, or if he was just a crap manager for them?

There's a rumour, unconfirmed, that he refused to take training in protest at this move...
