RE: Build your own PC quite cheap compared to rest
The link might well be able to offer the option to build your own PC but as I said in my initial post the selection of components is restrictive.
Limited choice on motherboards, limited geforce 4600`s as well, no plextor CDRW`s avail, only Samsung monitors, etc.
I wasn`t recommending high street over these but saying that for the money spent on this site you may as well get a pre built machine as you won`t get exactly what you want from this custom builder. Also for the layman who just wants a decent machine and doesn`t know one graphics card from the other they are a lot simpler to purchase as they can get exactly what they want it for.
Other sites such as Aria offer a better selection of components for building a PC and compete well on price as well.
If your gonna spend £1200 plus you may as well get the best you can rather than be restricted by what is available on a limited site.
Here`s one I put together as an example and isn`t too disimilar to the one you quote (albeit with a few better parts):
80GB Maxtor D/Max+9 ATA133/7200 8Mb
16X Pioneer DVD-117
Plextor 48X48X24 CDRW
AMD Athlon XP 2400 [2.00GHZ] (OEM)
Emermax Verre Midi 350 - W Fl`Light
Thermaltake Volcano 9 CoolMod
3½" Floppy Drive
Creative GeForce 4 Ti4600 128MB DDR
ABIT KD7-RAID
512MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
56K Internal PCI Hardware modem
3-COM 905CTX 10/100 NETWORK CARD
Creative SB Audigy 2 Player
17" Samsung Xiod TFT Ultra Slim
1YR ON-SITE PC WARRANTY (S2U)
If I was really picky I would be more specific on parts - Total cost 1164.50 ex VAT = 1368.29 inc VAT. And yes I know it doen`t have a DVD writer but you could add it if you felt the need.

RE: Build your own PC quite cheap compared to rest
I managed to get it up to £1300 withou even getting a case to put it all in. And the choice of manufacturers - Albatron graphics card anyone?
They are missing most of the better hardware on this option - guess they`ve never heard of PLextor for CD Writers or Creative Labs newer sound cards.
Better choice would be to go to:
Aria - www.aria.co.uk
Novatech - www.novatech.co.uk
Both of them have a far better custom PC builder option.
Also saying that people are still spending £2000 on a PC is a little off - here`s an example of PC Worlds items (and they`re not exactly the cheapest people):
Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz Processor
256Mb DDR RAM
80Gb Hard Drive
16x DVD-ROM
48x CD-ReWriter
64Mb ATi Radeon 9000 Graphics
15 inch TFT Monitor
Windows XP Home Edition
MS Worksuite 2002, Word 2002 & more
1 Year FREE On-site Warranty
£949.00 inc VAT

RE: Got new PC - where`d I start to optimize it game-wise?
A bit of shopping around will get you a GeForce 4 4600 for about £200ish and another 256mb would cost about £50 ish. If you can wait you could get a new GeForce FX when they get released in Feb.
RE: Connection help needed?
Not much of an expert on the connections but RGB is the best for both digital and DVD - would give to your DVD player as first option.
Broadband will however will run from your cable tv lead - depending where your PC is in relation to the TV they will prob split into Y and send one to your TV and one to the broadband. It won`t go through the settop box at all and will be just a coax connector directly into the cable modem, the 2nd coax will connect to your digi box
Component Video on Toshiba 32ZP18Q
Just ordered the above TV and had seen the model with component video input so assumed they all had - this model doesn`t have it listed.
The older model was 32ZP18P and it was listed as a feature - have they removed it from this model?
Anyone know? I`m a bit confused.
This is the only model on Toshiba`s website but I`ve seen other threads talking about this TV with component video - have I just missed out.
Any help/advice would help.
Thx in advance
DVD Query - Which one?
Anyone any opinions on which is the best choice between a Toshiba SD510E or a SD420E?
Want to buy a Toshiba to match up with the TV but not sure whether to buy the newer SD420E or stick with the highly rated SD510E
Price isn`t less the issue than the performance - will be mostly for DVD but may spin some music on it occasionally.
RE: Amp & Speakers - Is this a good deal?
Had a look at comparing the prices from both QED and HiFi Junkies and it seems HiFi Junkies may be slightly cheapers. I was going to buy the speakers as seperates and altho` HiFi Junkies are £12 more for the M73`s they are £17 cheaper for the amp.
Plus they are doing free delivery on all of the speakers and amp, they also all have a 5 year warranty whereas QED only supplies a 12 month warranty and you need to pay for the extra.
I probably need to ask about cable when I order as it`s not my forte, I`ll ask about the Ixo`s as it may be v.suitable (I`ve not got a long run for the speakers).
RE: Amp & Speakers - Is this a good deal?
Thx for the advice.
I think I`ll be going for the 620 plus buying mission speakers with it - probably the M73 plus the M7C1 and M7DS.
Should be around £640 for the lot and scarily I may just pay it up and plan towards my next purchase - I really want a newer TV.
Amp & Speakers - Is this a good deal?
I`m looking for a good 1st cinema kit. I`ve looked at the Yamaha NV10 which seems to be well rated but can`t find anywhere online that has one to check out prices.
I have seen the Yamaha DSPAX620 for £289.95 and they have a speaker pack with Mission 702e (Beech)+ Eltax Monitor 3 + Eltax Symphony Centre for 239.95.
What is the better deal? Or is there any other good systems anyone can recommend.
Thx
Kenwood 9050
Anyone heard what this amp is like?
The spec looks good with DTS and THX, the price is also reasonable at £280.
Anybody got any good recommendations on speakers to go with this?
