Penny a Minute Internet Access

Tubs74 (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 7th January 2003, 17:06

Just wondering, is there anywhere that still does penny a minute internet access, rather than just local rate? (which seems to be the norm now for "no ties" internet access)

http://www.telecomplus.co.uk/ (Go Plus) is one I found on the list at ISP Review here : http://www.ispreview.co.uk/0845list/0845.shtml

Hope that helps :-)

I think with Onetel you will also need to subscribe to their cheap rate landline rates to qualify for the 1 p p min internet access.

Also- sometime, but not too often, its a job to get connected to their server - you`ll have to try several times - other than that they`re not bad. Couldn`t see the point for paying for AOL or Compuserve in addition to your phone bills.

http://www.sniffout.net are doing a deal called "Lite Time" whereby you pay in advance online by debit/credit card for cheap internet access time, in amounts of £5. £10, or £15 :

"LiteTime accounts can be topped-up online in fixed amounts of £5, £10 or £15, to provide, respectively, 12 hours, 30 hours and 50 hours of Internet access. Like a mobile phone, a LiteTime account must be topped-up at least once every 60 days, representing a minimum commitment of only £2.50 per month, or about 8p per day.

LiteTime can offer a significant saving over normal 'pay-as-you-go' Internet deals. For instance, splash out on a £15 top-up and you'll get 50 hours Internet time, which works out at 0.5p per minute. If you're a daytime Internet user, the same 50 hours of surfing at local call rates could cost you £120".

They also have DIal Plus with 2p/min daytime and 1p/min evenings.

I used Lite Time for approx 2 months last year and always had good connection speeds and near 100% log on success.

However they did run into financial problems and shut down for a while, but to be fair they did refund my unused credit.

They seemed to have bounced back but I`d check out net4nowt.com to see if anybody`s been having a bad time with them recently.

(You have to have a BT line)

I`d be very wary of any pay-upfront deals, personally..

This site was mentioned in a computer mag and looks good for unlimited dial up at £6.99 , does`nt appear to tie you in so would surely be worth a try rather than go penny a min.Check it out and see what you think, hope this is of help to some of you

Well, as I said, they did refund my outstanding credit without any hassle -and laying out £5-15 is hardly the biggest gamble in the world...

I use onetel as my backup connection, and it`s pretty good. One good thing is that it`s an 0808 freephone number, and they then just charge your account. I use it when out and about with the laptop, as I don`t end up using other people`s phone bills.
