Woohoo! Great news. There was some talk of charging for Yahoo Mail but I guess they got frightened by GMail. This is now my number 1 email provider - its easily the best service out there.

Yep, this has always been my number 1, I just download as if it`s POP3 using Mozilla Thunderbird (great email client).

All I can say is the best just got better!

PS. It`s actually as of today, not the 16th, because I`ve logged in and it tells me how much space I have left out of 100MB

How do you download from Yahoo as POP3?

I use Mozilla Thunderbird as well and didn`t realise you could do that.

Are they doing this bit by bit? My mailbox is still showing as 6Mb (been with them for years), but a newer account I used for job hunting is 100Mb (don`t really need this one any more).

Mine shows 2GB!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian, to download your Yahoo email to keep on your local hard drive using any email client (I would recommend Mozilla Thunderbird - glad to know that you do too!), do the following:-

[*] Start your web browser (Mozilla Firefox 0.9 is my recommendation)
[*] Login to Yahoo UK Mail (click on the secure login)
[*] Once the welcome screen appears, click on "Mail Options" on the top right header
[*] Under Management, click "POP Access & Forwarding"
[*] Change the Web & POP Access to your preferences
[*] Click on "POP Settings" or "View POP Settings" link
[*] You should now see details required to set up your mail account as well as instructions
[*] Now add the Yahoo account to Thunderbird - Click here for Thunderbird Help to add new account
[*] The "Add Account" wizard is also available from either the Tools Menu or File Preferences menu. (I can`t remember which as I have to use boring Outlook2000 at work)
[*] You can also set you messages to be deleted from the server so that your Yahoo account is always cleaned up. I have this setting switched on at home but off at work so that I can still download to my email client at work, but still go home and redownload the messages.
[*] Only messages to your Inbox and Bulk Mail folder are retrieved.

I got me a gmail account today - all the cool kids have got one so I wanted one... then realised I hardly ever use webmail anymore - I use POP mail and use addresses from my own domains. Oh well.

Really really nice of yahoo though - been with them over 5 years, not really had a problem with them, just "need" a gmail account. :D Will probably continue to use the yahoo account I use for signing up for things, as I`ve signed up for so many things with it I`d never remember it all to go to the sites and change the address.

With .co.uk addresses I think you can set up POP mail for free, but I tried it with my .com addresses but it didn`t work and then I got a stern email from yahoo in my yahoo inbox saying I had to buy an upgrade to use POP main. Will have to try again though - that was like a year ago.
