RE: 2008 F1

To be fair to Bernie, that`s his sense of humour and he and Brundle often have a verbal jousting during the grid walk.

RE: RIP The Omega Man

The gun control comments are going to over shadow his liberal views earlier in his career when he spoke out against racism and was heavily into civil rights.

RE: Petrol Management?

Never believe manufacturers fuel consumption figures either when buying a car. Fifth gear on Monday ran a feature about the Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion where it`s claimed that it gets about 71 miles to the gallon. Tom Ford`s family tested it and got only 47mpg. The Volkswagen spokesman blamed it on driving styles and the fact that there were two adults and two children in the car.

RE: freeview recorders

I think Sue`s dad will have the Digihome DTR80 which is supposed to be a T825. This is the one I was looking at as well but the Hitachi at £15 cheaper is a fantastic deal provided you get a T825 version having just read on another forum that Argos are selling the older HDR081 (T816) under the same sku code as the HDR082.

Does anyone know offhand whether the HDR081 has series record?

RE: freeview recorders

I used to have a Pace Twin which has just died on me and it`s not until you`re without one that you realise what fantastic bits of kit they are.

I`m about to buy the Hitachi myself. At £69 for 80gb it`s an unbeatable deal for a "branded" model. I say "branded" because it`s manufactured by a set top box manufacturer called Vestel. They make boxes for the likes of Asda (Onn/Durabrand), Argos (Digihome), Evesham, Tesco (Techwood) and also for Sharp and Hitachi.

The advantage with this particular model is that it`s a T825 model as opposed to T810 and T816 versions which are still available in the likes of Tesco and Asda. The T825 has the ability to record two channels at the same time whilst watching a previously recorded programme. It also has the ability to series record as well. The T810 has a single tuner so can only record the channel you are currently watching whilst the T816 can be upgraded to record two channels but it`s something that not everyone is going to be prepared to do.

Drawbacks with Vestel boxes are that they can sometimes be a little slow to respond, sometimes lock up and the software can be buggy. The upsides are a fantastic spec, value for money compared to the likes of Humax and Topfield and a very good user interface (reckoned by many people to be better than the interface on the Humax).

Let me know what you end up going for.

RE: HD DVD Player Toshiba HD-E1 £179.99 Delivered !!!

And the E1 is an older model. Better value is the EP30 with 1080 24fps support.

RE: Reminder - New Series Top Gear Tonight BBC2 8.00pm

Another disappointed viewer here.

I thought that the Helen Mirren interview was rather uninteresting, the best roads feature boring and so what about the souped up Golf?

The motoring news spot wasn`t the funniest I`ve ever seen. Thought Hamster was trying too hard to be funny when going on about the ugly car picture.

Hopefully the series will improve over the next few weeks.......

RE: Speed points fine increase for drivers who refuse to tell

This legislation is here to make the Police`s job easier by not having to be so rigorous with providing evidence.

Indeed, guilty until proven innocent.....

RE: Any decent 1080p panels around for under a grand?

Although the Tosh 42X3030DB claims to be 24fps compatible what it`s actually doing is taking the signal, converting it back to 60hz and introducing judder. There are a lot of people on another forum complaining that Tosh have misrepresented the TV and threatening to contact Trading Standards.

If you want a cheapo 1080p 24fps TV, I`m not entirely sure it exists yet. THere`s a Wharfedale available thourgh Argos priced at £800 but I`ve not seen reviews of it yet.

RE: Bargain 32

The only drawback is the lack of a freeview tuner and the casing is a dark metallic grey rather than the black casing that the WLT66 has, but for the price it`s a bargain.

RE: Champions League Final (Contains spoilers)

As a Liverpool fan I saw no handball about the first Milan goal. Inzaghi got himself a lucky deflection which wrong footed Reina.

As to the offside Kuyt goal. Big deal. It makes up for the dodgy decisions against Crouch and Kuyt every time they challenged for the ball.

RE: Road pricing to go ahead

And as for the device in the car......the chavs and illegal immigrants will find a way not to be charged or be excluded from charging by generous local authorities......number plate cloning will proliferate.....cars will go untaxed and uninsured......

RE: Road pricing to go ahead

Road pricing will not happen simply because it is unfair. Unfair just like the poll tax was and it`ll prove to be an election killer.

The 2 million votes on the Number 10 poll has quietly been forgotten about for the time being by politicians but come the next election.....it`ll be a very useful weapon for the opposition to use.

RE: Aldi 47" HDTV £1099

It`s not had good reviews on www.avforums.com. There appear to be issues with connectivity, build quality and backlight coverage.

Not the bargain it`s made out to be. Personally I`d be tempted to wait for a quality brand to bring out something price competitive. Toshiba have brought out the 42" X series set which is also 1080p and available online for £1000.

RE: Just been attacked by a gang of teenagers!

I sympathise big time. Hope you get better soon.

I`m looking forward to seeing someone high up in "authority" get the same attention so that the government and legal profession finally see sense and start dishing out proper punishment.

RE: 42

It`s a good price for a well known brand but look around to see what other manufacturers are doing. The Samsung PS-42Q7H can be had for £730 and Dixons are doing a Philips set for £799.

RE: Toshiba HD-E1 DVD Player Region Free for HD DVDS

badboybez is correct.

No HD-DVD player has region coding set for HD-DVD`s which means you can import discs from all over the world. When it comes to normal DVD`s it`s a different matter as they still are region coded so think carefully about whether you go for a UK player or import.

Toshiba have also said that the existing players that are region free will not be retrospectively updated to implement region coding on high def discs.

RE: Mika - Grace Kelly

I saw a clip of him performing another track live on TV the other night. Absolutely awful. He`ll have one hit album and then disappear.....hopefully!

RE: Whens the Deal Or No Deal Big Winner On Tv (Might Be Today!)

Laura certainly deserved the cash. Incredibly brave of her to carry on, especially as she`d written £20000 in the book.

RE: Talk Sport Mike Dickin Dead

I`d heard that he`d had heart problems in the past so maybe the accident triggered a heart attack.

Very sad and another vocal critic of politicians and political correctness gone........

RE: Scottish Girl In India

And in a few months time when the truth comes out she`ll be begging to come back to her Mum.

RE: Richard Hammond in jet powered car accident......

I really hope the Hamster pulls through as well.....

No doubt we`ll have people calling for Top Gear to be axed now.

RE: Where can I get a FREE template for Tenancy agreement?

I think Tesco Extra sell tenancy agreement packs

RE: "The Sun"`s Campaign To "Bang Up The Gangs"

It`s very simple really.

- Build more jails and have the prison population working for their food and accomodation. If they don`t want to work then they have to learn a trade or have their sentence increased.

- A 3 strikes and you`ve earnt a life sentence rule, regardless of the offence. Paying for some nasty piece of work to be locked up for life is to me a good use of public money.

- Stop probation and early release. When a custodial sentence is given, the prisoner serves that time.

- A convicted criminal loses all rights under the Human Rights act to compensation, etc.

- Make those found guilty of offences provide compensation to the victims of crime whether that be financial or providing assistance in some way.

- Make the parents of young offenders, criminally responsible as well if evidence is found of poor parenting.

Basically make criminals understand that if they commit an offence then there will be a real punishment should they be caught.

There was a story in the newspaper recently of some criminal who chose to go to jail rather than do community service because he was told by a criminal relative that prison was an easy touch because of the free food, tv, pool table, etc. His parents were despairing of their son`s opinion.

RE: Liz Summers on Quiz Call

Amanda Lamb.....has kids.....not sure she has you know.

As for Kirstie.....used to like her but now she`s an unmarried mother......

And Sarah Beeny`s bump on her lip seems to be getting bigger all the time.....off putting I`m afraid.

Liz Summers on Quiz Call

I was watching Quiz Call last night and admiring the loveliness that is Liz Summers. Very natural and friendly unlike the other Liz......Fuller!

She`s got a website and it`s Liz Summers

RE: Saxondale.....

If Saxondale proved one thing it`s that Liza Tarbuck can really act.

RE: Chelsea vs. Liverpool (spoiler)

I always find it funny when Mourinho goes on about how Chelsea have beaten Liverpool so many times but when it comes to the matter of a semi-final.......

You can rely on two things when it comes to a semi-final with Chelsea.....Liverpool will win and Garcia will score!

Stealth DVD

I managed to pick up a copy of Stealth for £5 last night in Asda in Watford.

Quite a few other bargains in there as well including the latest Richard Ashcroft album for £5 as well!
