Replacement for LX3000D

My LX300D has just decided to die. Over the past 2 weeks its got more and more fussy about playing DVDs and now just sits there with LOADING on the display and makes whiring and clicking noises.

So I`m looking for a cheapish replacement. As I`ve got the LX wired up for my sound and use it as a tuner I`m thinking that just getting an external DVD player and using the LX for the sound surround might be sensible.

Anyone else done that or am I better replacing the whole lot (or does anyone do a surround sound player without the 5.1 speakers?)

RE: simpsons season 5

Count yourself lucky that any of them play - they lock Windows Explorer up solid when I put any of them in my PC - I never even get as far as any region warning message.

I have similar problems with Series 3

RE: Back to the Future Region 2 - progressive coding or interlaced?

So what advantage doe non interlaced scanning have over interlaced given that the TV is going to use interlacing to display the picture? unless you are on a very large flat panel screen or porjection TV Probably a silly question I know.

I have the R2 box set and the picitre on a Pansonic Quintrix widescreen Tv is crystal clear

RE: Telly in the Pink

"- two areas of the screen are effected. On the left side (which would be the edge on 4:3) it has a pink glow and over in the top right it has a green glow."

That sounds like magnatisation of the shadow mask in the tube. Have you degaussed it by powering off (NOT standby) and then back on a few times?

RE: Tut tut - naughty Akura ! The drought of cheap players at Kwik Save explained..

To be fair to Dolby they are only acting within their rights. If people are shipping DVD players with Dolby decoders in and they have not licenced the Dolby Technlogy then they should get what is coming. Dolby licence their product to ensure that products going out with their technology and their logo on meets their standards.

RE: Multiregion Pioneer + RCE

Looking through my stack of Regon 1 CDs there only seems to be 1 Columbia TriStar in the collection - most fo the rest are Dreamworks or WB. My copy of Spiderman is the UK release.

So I guess the question is - does anyone have a LX3000D and any other known RCE discs?

Steve

RE: Multiregion Pioneer + RCE

I bought it 3 weeks ago from a local store - Its the 25S revision which I hacked using the Play 15902379390 Play remote hack.

Its the Wdiescreen Special edtion ( 2 DVD) MIB II which I was reliably informed was RCE.

Steve

RE: Multiregion Pioneer + RCE

" some hacked by remote(Philips for definite)"

I read this and got worried. so I took my US copy of MIB II (known to be RCE) and dropped it into my Phillips LX3000D (which is set to region free) and it played without a problem.

RE: Lord of the rings - The Two Towers & Warfdale 750s Problems

My 750s was fine... well it got about half way through and then locked up. It had been doing that more and more wiht all DVDs so its been consigned to the tip.

RE: Digital Cable through AV Receiver question...

My Telewest Digital TV box has audio out on the back of it, it also has an ethernet conection and is marke "Telewest Broadband".

It sounds like you have an old box... it might be worth contacting Telewest and seeing if they will give you a new box.

The audio out drives my 5.1 system very well and unlike picture shape (which they get wrong from time to time) TW seem to get the 5.1 broadcasts spot on.

RE: Philips LX3000D DVD Problem

Yes I noticed it.. the DVD equivalent of tape dropour!!

I found that earthing it seemed to help.. Its connected to my Hi-Fi which has a hard earth on it and it seemed to improve.

RE: Phillips LX3000D Noise issue

I picked on up on Monday after my old Wharfedale died.

Its the 25S sub model (so the box claims in one place, then it claims its a 22S in another place and a note "Do not Sell - use 25S")

However it is totally silent.. so maybe they fixed the fan... or I`m just lucky.

RE: STARGATE - Region 2 DIRECTORS CUT

I have the region 1 directors cut and I have not noticed any quality problems with the video in the extra sections. I do not normally use subtitles but I can turn them on and see if its a generic problem or just a region 2 one.

RE: Good Budget DVD players

I guess I got Jobsworth Junior on the phone - he wanted receipt details and then told me that as it was more than a year old it was not covered by them and I would have to phone the engineer directly and get him to come and look at it and I would pick up the bill... which given the sort of costs engineers charge would not be worth it.

RE: Chicken Run dead?

It plays other DVDs just about fine - got some odd glitches on other disks (Stargate Special Edition, Highlander Endgame) and when I use the forward and back buttons it makes a very unpleasant noise through the audio (sounds like a CD skipping across tracks). It also wont play South Park - which again it did just a week or so ago... Maybe it does not approve of my choice of viewing material ;)

Chicken Run has been gently cleaned and checked in other players (including another 750s) and behaves itself fine. Was working OK last time it was used in the player..

If I get it to load without starting and go into the menu I can play the movie and it locks up after about 40 minutes. If I try GOTO to go to scenes before the 40 minutes its OK some of the time but always locks up totally if I try to jump towards the end of the movie. After it has locked up I have to do a hard power off - no buttons on the remote control do anything.

If I put the disk in and let it spin up and load it manages to put half of the opening screen up over the DVD logo (reads track 5 00:01 on the display) and it is totally dead... I have to power off.

Good Budget DVD players

OK - my Wharfedale 750s is screwed: they refuse to touch it and I will have to pay for repairs (I`m pretty sure its a transport problem). Considering its only just over a year since I got it and its already been replaced once I am not very impressed

So I am looking for advice for a good cheap player.. I am loathed to buy another box with the Wharfedale logo on it ... so I`m open to suggestions.

I`m not running a big / widescreen TV and dont have a surround sound system (my apartment is too small for that) so .....

RE: has any one bought the wicker man wooden box edition from play.com??

Theoretically you can get taxed for any overseas purchased. Customs got me about 3 times when I was buying a lot of CDs from overseas... its a risk you have to take..

Or you get it gift wrapped and posted as a gift to someone else... I know several people who do this..... gifts not being taxed!.

Steve

RE: Chicken Run dead?

Nope.. they require details from the sales receipt.... so it looks like its bin time for the 750s.... and Wharfedale are not getting any more money from me... I`ve only used the thing about 100 times.

Chicken Run dead?

I have a Wharfedale 750s which used to play Chicken Run fine..

Put it in earlier today and it spins up, identifies the audio and jumps to track 5 and either locks up with crap on the screen or it sort of skips through it and then brings up the menu but is flaky from that point on. The player plays other DVDs fine - it was in region free mode but I have put it back to region 2 to see if that made any difference... but it didn`t.

Has anyone got any ideas or sensible suggestions?

Steve

RE: Highlander - Been and Gone??

Well I got hold of a copy and it looks like the standard UK Cinema release .. not the US version which was rather badly mangled.

Picture is sharp and clear.. audio is a bit lacking in bass but its good and clear too.

I suspect that the other 3 movies are going to be packaged in a similar way given the way the movie has been packaged.

Highlander - Been and Gone??

Was this a limited release? Amazon.co.uk say it is not in stock. Black star say it was deleted from the UK catalogue on 21st March 2001?

I WANT a copy.. my VHS copy is worn out!!

RE: Gladiator Disc return address?

Given the major explosion thats taken place on the Universal Pictures forum over the inclusion of a rather misleading "documentary" about violence in sport which uses a lot of footage from Hillsborough I suspect that Universal may well need more than 1 address to handle returns

RE: Fantasia Three Disk Set

Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Maybe Watchdog should be informed of these major differences - seeing that they have finally got into the fiasco over the 3rd disk in the Region 2 sets. It would be fun to see some pointy eared lacky from Disney having to explain that not only does their 3 disk not work but the other disks are butchered versions of the region 1 disks.

RE: Multi Scart control boxes for a one scart TV

Maplin electronics do a nice multiway switch box.

TV goes in one socket, VCR (for recording and playback) goes in another and there are 2 others scarts for DVD etc. The unit also has switched phonos - so that you can link it to a HiFi

Costs about £14

RE: Where have all the Wharfedale 750(s) gone

Got this from Wharfedale when I emailed them

Dear Steve,

The product is still availble from Tescos and they will alwasys have a dedicated team of service engineers.

RE: Pathetic Abuse

I did not say that people are not offering advice - its just that I find it it saddening when what was a good thread turns into comments along the lines "well if you will buy a s***e machine" which may well be jokes amongst friends but often kills the thread.

Pathetic Abuse

I know I have only been here a few days but already I am getting sick and fed up of the childish abuse being hurled around by certain people.

Bragging about how good your player is or how crap other peoples are isn`t really interesting is it?

Surely these forums should be for people to help each other out - to share information and not just to be a slanging ground.

Ahh well just a thought

Merlin and the PS2

This is for a friend who does not have net access - He has got Merlin on Region 2 and on his Playstation 2 all the dialogue is out of sync.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Tesco and Wharfedale

The 750s has vanished from Tesco`s web site.

Does this mean that they have stopped selling it - and left us all in the lurch?

RE: FANTASIA 3 DISCS

But dont the mouse eared fools at Disney realise that its us people with the cheaper players who are making the market work by making it big enough to make releases worth while. I was in at the start with CD (with a CD-101) and before cheap players came out the catalogue was very small. Only when cheap players came out did the catalogue grow - and the companies started to clean up and release older material.

As for Chicken Run - I swapped the disk and it still goes wrong and dvdtimes bug reports show that other people are having problems with it.
