Pathetic Abuse

Stephen Atty (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 7th January 2001, 20:28

I know I have only been here a few days but already I am getting sick and fed up of the childish abuse being hurled around by certain people.

Bragging about how good your player is or how crap other peoples are isn`t really interesting is it?

Surely these forums should be for people to help each other out - to share information and not just to be a slanging ground.

Ahh well just a thought

Yes, that is their purpose. We are working on a "Conditions of Usage" which we`ll put on the page where you post messages, hopefully some people will actually read this and abide by it.

However Clayts, Jimbo, Ironduke and other regulars often just slag each other`s units off in a game of oneupmanship which shouldn`t be mistaken for genuine pathetic abuse, merely their own brand of pathetic abuse. ;-)

I would add that if anybody feels someone in particular is abusing these forums, then send a message to the email address at the bottom of this page with a URL to the offending thread and we will look into the matter. We will keep any correspondence strictly confidential.

I`m sorry you feel the way you do, I really am.

As a regular contributor to the forum, it kinda feels like a local pub to me - the vast majority of people who do post threads will provide a healthy balance offering advice, guidance, assistance, whatever, with ripping the you-know-what out of the other contributors. A bit like real-life then...

Unfortunately, to the outsider this may seem a little clique, but you`ll find as time goes on, it`s part and parcel of the forum scene. It`s not just this site, but any site that offers a forum.

It`s a world full of people after all, and opinion makes the world go round. Doesn`t mean you have to agree with that opinion....

Oh Mr Shepherd sir, you just beat my considered response to Stephen`s thread !

Quite right, "pathetic abuse" pretty much sums up most of the late night dialogue between me and Dukey, I`d have to agree.

However, I think you`ll find that all of us offer advice, etc as well ? Hmm ?

I did not say that people are not offering advice - its just that I find it it saddening when what was a good thread turns into comments along the lines "well if you will buy a s***e machine" which may well be jokes amongst friends but often kills the thread.

No, that`s a fair comment Stephen.

I have to admit I`ve been `sucked` into a debate onto someone else`s thread where I had no reason to be, and for that I humbly apologise to everyone.

Mr Shepherd, perhaps what we need is a Kindergarten Forum, where we can throw our toys at each other in isolation of the real issues on the other forums ?

Hoi!! I resemble that remark! ::grin::

Seriously, check all of my threads, you may find a "jibe" or "comment" but you won`t find offensive material contained within. The strongest language I will use will usually be "Crud".

And anyways...Sheppy, go get that Aiwa hack fixed, and get that Pikachu off yer page..I`m waiting to see what your next page of "inane drivel" is!!

(Just kidding sheppy..I actually like reading the stuff you put on yer main page...but you really need to get that hack fixed!)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!

I have been saying that for a while. It is often annoying when a thread gets taken over by people saying how their player "rocks" and others are "s***e". They then completely ignore what the thread was originally about and fail to help anyone really. If you know what I mean.

Not quite full, there`s plenty more space once we kill off some more animal species and destroy some more rain forests!

>and opinion makes the world go round.

Actually I thought it was the gravitational pull on the earth from the sun that made the world go round.

>Doesn`t mean you have to agree with that opinion....

Ahh opinions mean s*** pal unless someone`s foolish enough to listen!
;-)
