Lawrence of Arabia Special??? Edition - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!!!!!
What is going on!!!!!!!!!!!
Who in their right mind decided to put half of the film on one disc and the other half on another disc!!!!!
Granted each disc has loads of extras, but who wants a glorified flipper!!!!
I am seething about this, what a waste of a special edition!!!!
Please re-issue with all of the film on one disc and all of the extras on the other one. Please!!!!
Rant over.
Note: Information obtained from my favourite site: Ezydvd in Oz. This is obviously region 4 is this the same version in region 1 or 2???
Help!
RE: Lawrence of Arabia Special??? Edition - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!!!!!
It is doubtful that 4 hours of near reference quality video would fit on one side of a DVD without compromising on quality. Splitting the film over two discs seems the only sensible option.

Note that unlike Armageddon and similar flip-tastic monstrosities, Lawrence of Arabia is *supposed* to be in two halves, with an intermission in between. So the side change occurs at an intended break in the film - no great hardship.

I hate flippers but agree with LoA on 2 discs. Personally I can`t get through a showing of the VHS version without my backside going comatose on me.
The intermission provides a great moment to go limber up and have a cup of tea. Wonder if there still be the music?

I believe there will still be music during the intermission as I believe some reviews have mentioned this. Personally I think this is a great idea as you are basically watching the film as it was originally shown in the cinema (not with as big a screen however) unlike VHS which melded the whole 4 hours together

Yep Rich is wright & and for an old movie it put`s to shame some of the newer movie`s availble on Dvd.
RE: Lawrence of Arabia Special??? Edition - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!!!!!
Many long older films had intermissions.
Patton has one
Cleopatra had one (the dvd is split at the intermission over 2 disc)
Ben Hur had one (the dvd is a DVD-18 with film continuing on the other side)
With the films that had an intermission I believe that spliting over 2 disc is acceptable if the quality would have been compromised by squeezing it on to 1 disc.

I *believe* the re-issue of 2001 A Space Odssey in cinemas right now also has overture music and an intermission; what odds the DVD being the same?
Both the Ben Hur and LoA DVDs benefit from a proper intermission, especially with a chance to hear Miklos Roza`s and Maurice Jarre`s overture and intermission `suites` (choc ice anyone?); though those with DVD multi-changers won`t have to get off their bums with Lawrence will they?
Now if they`d only produce DVDs with proper `double bills` and period Pearl and Dean ads...

Would that include the exotic pictures of India, you know the guy with the turban doing the dance, and pictures of various temples, etc and with the fantastic posh bird voiceover
"We had a lovely day, we visited lots of interesting places. The day was made worthwhile by visiting",
cue dodgy editing -
board goes up for "Mugal Shahi Tandoori Restaurant" with a gruff bloke`s voice giving the address and a crude diagram with an arrow pointing to the location, usually just round the corner from the Odeon.
I actually laughed out so loud in the cinema the first time I saw this ad that everyone turned round, and I spent the rest of the movie (can`t even remember what it was) guffawing like a loon. I still have the elbow marks from my girlfriend at the time in my ribcage to prove it too...
LoA has had excellent reviews - this month`s Home Entertainment mag has made me want to go out and buy it.
