IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BARGAIN FORUMS USERS
Good morning to you all,
As some of you may or may not know, TheDVDForums have had to close their Bargain Forum due to a serious legal issue involving `dodgy` discount refferal threads.
Now, it`s never been the job of all us Mod`s here to come over all `Gustapo`, but i myself, (and no doubt countless others), believe that DVD Reviewer has carved itself an enviable reputation for good behaviour, both through the sensible nature of its visitors and the control of us mods.
I for one am not willing to see this change, and would like the Bargain Buckets forum to remain a happy place for all to browse and use at their leisure.
Now, the serious bit. In order for this forum to stay safe, i urge everyone who posts here to abide by the forum rules, which can be read again here; http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/rules.asp and also to just make sure that;
*There are no REFFERAL THREADS.
*No dodgy `click here for this list of coupon` offers. If they have been given to you by a retailer, then please use them for YOURSELF and don`t post them here as a link
*If you spot a `register here for a free DVD offer`, then by all means go for it, but please DO NOT post on here that you have potentially spoilt it for people by mentioning that `i signed up through multiple email addresses, so it`s one copy for me, my mum, ebay etc...`. This is a breach of the rules of many of these competitions, and by posting your intentions and actions here you are not only incriminating YOURSELF, but also the integrity of the site too. Don`t forget ANYONE can come look in here, we don`t want Reviewer to be involved in a legal wrangle.
I know this is probably going to seem a bit serious, but peeps we MUST abide to a bit of conduct here to keep things in order. I will say now that practically all of you are never a problem and the behaviour at all of these forums, (bar the odd few :-)), is impeccable. Let`s not spoil it all by doing anything stupid.
If you`re in any doubt about the seriousness of the situation for DVDForums, then read both threads here; http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=131887&perpage=35&pagenumber=1
and here; http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=131984
I will be posting this in the general forum too, so everyone will see this.
All us mods ask is that we PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE be good people and not plaster this forum with endless dodgy offers, it`s not our aim and it`s not fair game guvnor.
I thank you all for listening
Kind regards,
Westy

I agree with this to, I have been able to save a good deal of money from information posted in this forum on genuine offers I would not have known about had it not been on here, it would be a shame if this had to stop just because a few people have to get greedy or misuse promotional codes for the sake of saving a couple of quid on a DVD, we would all lose a lot more if the bargain forum was not here at all.

`Ere, Westy, I suggest you re-read the forum rules yourself and pay particluar attention to the part about posting messages in multiple forums.
Only joking mate :)
RE: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BARGAIN FORUMS USERS
Pssst want to buy a watch. Seriously, I think this is the best forum on the site. Beats "Bargain Hunt" any day.
RE: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BARGAIN FORUMS USERS
It`s a shame about DVD Forums. Between this forum & that all DVD bargains were sewn up. This is, now, by far, the best forum...unless someone can tell me otherwise!!
RE: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BARGAIN FORUMS USERS
"Don`t forget ANYONE can come look in here, we don`t want Reviewer to be involved in a legal wrangle."
erm ... I personally think you obviously have no idea about the law - a companies terms and conditions for an offer or promotion are not a matter of common law in general but solely for the purposes of the contract that arises after the acceptance of the offer. Breach of these terms and conditions would only lead to (at the worse) a breach of contract between the company and the individual - it cannot encompass a thrid party!!!!!
Therefore, advertising a offer no matter how "dodgy" or dubious is not actually any offence (certainly not in any jurisdiction in the United Kingdom) and this thread seems to be aimed at causing paranoia.
Nor would it be likely that a online shop could hold anyone liable for damages, since they themselves are the ones that have advertised the offer initially.
The only case in which there could be a "legal wrangle" would be in the case of fraud; not only is fraud notoriously difficult to prove but also there has as yet been no post of this forum that would constitute fraud - `conspiracy to commit` being an essential element.
RE: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BARGAIN FORUMS USERS
Lighten up, mate :-)
All we`re saying to our visitors is watch what you post - remember, the moderators delete posts that are definitely scamworthy so you never get to see half of `em...
No need to go all legal on us - if we`re being over-zealous, rather that than being in a position which could be construed as "conspiracy to commit fraud". If you perceive that as paranoia, so be it. As you can see, most people see Westy`s comment as a gentle reminder, nowt more...
In DVD Forums case, someone openly shared a fraudulent activity with other forum visitors, and sadly it wasn`t picked up for some time - the ramifications (particularly with regards to Littlewoods) are still unknown.
Thankfully, CD Wow have come through and agreed not to pursue the matter although they will either be cancelling the fraudulent orders or asking those customers to pay the money back.
CD Wow - sound guys, who did not deserve being conned by anyone...

An article on more background to the AV Forums issue and threatened legal issue from Littlewoods has been posted at The Register:

RE: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BARGAIN FORUMS USERS
Is it not reasonable to alert other forum users to the incompetance of some large and well know companies? I can think of the famous brand digital camaras at under £20, and the register now SCAM with their free dvd offer (still havn`t got mine) im sick of the crap e-mails promoting their films.
If, unlike me, a user makes multiple requests using different names and locations HOW do such as Fox know this has actually happened?
