gerkey (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 4th August 2004, 23:50

News on Poundland DVD`s has been scant of late,
They have been re-issueing most of those Discs we , well some of us, brought at £1
on Double Feature Discs, in fact today i noticed another load of them in a new style sleeve.
However the reasion for this posting is another bunch of Discs which have 3 films on one disc, all are B/W. Here are the Discs they had in Croydon Today :

CE 021
Painted Desert. Clark Gable, in fact Clark is number 5 on the cast list.
Texas Terror. John Wayne.
Hell Town. John Wayne

CE 006
Of Human Bondage. Betty Davis
Behave Yourself. Shelly Winters.
Home Town Story. Marilyn Monroe.

CE 013
Our Town William Holden.
The Star Packer. John Wayne.
Rocket Ship XM Lloyd Bridges

CE 018
Little Shop Of Horrors. Jack Nicholson. (way down the cast list)
The Bat. Vincent Price.
Bride Of The Monster. Bela Lugosi.

CE 003
They Call It Murder. Humphrey Bogart.
Great Guy. James Cagney.
The Lucky Texan. John Wayne.

CE 015
The Flying Deuces. Laurel & Hardy.
Africa Screams. Abbot & Costello.
The Abbot & Costello Show. with Jane Russell.

the best for last-

CE023
Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon
Terror By Night.
Dressed To Kill. ----------all with Basil Rathbone

a word of warning none of these movies have chapter marks.

When i was in Woolworths, in Croydon, today, they have these bins mostly containing
videos one bin has some DVDs, brought `Undercurrent` with Lorenzo Lamas £1.99
They also had some copies of `Donna Summers live At Manhattan Centre, 1999.
at £1.99, great voice but only 40 Mins long

Recently brought `the Best Disco In Town. Live 2003.`at Wembley Arena - wonderful Disc.

If I buy any more early John Wayne films my dad has threatened to make me sit & watch them with him (they make him cringe & he recalls them the first time around).

I`ve sat through about 12 of these early John Wayne westerns myself. They are quite addictive but very similar plotwise. Always good to see George "Gabby" Hayes in these films plus Yakima Canutt does some great stunts and usually plays the villain as well.. The horseriding is always really impressive and pretty dangerous looking and the fist fights are just like the brawls you see on a Sat night in any town centre - no real choreography just grappling, kicking and wild punches everywhere.
