Subject line says it all...

For those who don`t yet have (Woolies) mobiles coming out of their ears and who also missed the Carphone Warehouse and E2Save deals at the beginning of this month...

Nokia 7600 on 3Pay PAYG
£39.99 @ Amazon
No additional calltime purchase required.

non-affiliate link:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00025E0KY?tag=myrev09-21

or, if you`re happy to use it, I have an affiliate link on my website:

Also, unlike most other 3G handsets, you can use this as a replacement for your 2G handset if you get it unlocked and factory restet. Details of what this means, why you need to do this and a couple of places where you can send your handset to get this done can be found on my website here:

Update:
======

The original £44.99 deal is also back on the Carphone Warehouse site now. Word is that they expect a huge consignment early next week.

non-affiliate link:

My website article (mentioned in the post above) now also makes a mention of this and includes my affiliate link for this deal, if anyone is happy to use it.

FYI...the original CPW deal came with £15 credit pre-loaded onto teh SIM in teh form of 50 voice minutes valid for 30 days, £5 credit valid for 30 days and a further £2.50 credit valid for 3 months. The additional "credit" can be used for any 3 service (including more voice calls). Although the CPW webpage linked to above makes no mention of the credit, it was similarly silent on this issue at the start of teh month - only the front-page ad mentioned the extra credit and CPW haven`t yet redvertised this deal on their front page (but I`m sure they will soon).

Personally, if you plan to use this as a spare/replacement 2G handset (after a factory reset) - I`d plump fo rthe Amazon deal as it`s slightly cheaper and you won`t really be able to sell the time-limited SIM/credit for very much these days anyhow.

I was gonna buy one of these but as you cannot restore factory settings it is likely they will be stuck on the 3 network which does not have the best of receptions. :(

Hi Iron Monkey -

For anyone thinking of buying this when/if it becomes available again and anyone who`s already purchased and is looking to use it as a spare/replacement 2G handset, I`ve actually put together an article telling people why the factory reset is necessary AND providing details of two reputable guys who frequent the usenet forums who can do this for you for as little as £10 per handset, including return (special delivery) postage:

http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~lauriem/latest_additions.html#0610200402

Hopefully this will save a protracted debate about what all the fuss is about regarding the factory reset.

you can download movies, etc, but cant use this phone for video calling as the phone`s firmware for video calling is not compatible with the 3 network.

I`ve a local shop near me (200yds from where I work) that unlocks phones. I popped in this lunchtime and asked him if he could do a 7600?

He flicked through his collection of cables and stuff and saif he didn`t have the right equipment yet but that he could get the necessary equipment in for later in the week.

Obviously I`m the first person to ask him about a 7600! He didn`t appear that knowledgeable on the process for 7600`s (i mentioned the missing network item) so he has obviously not done that phone before. However I`m sure that he could if he resets all other types of phones.

He mentioned it would probably just need a hardware reset.

My question is ....

What else disappears on a hardware reset.

Do any settings that I may want to get back disappear? Should I be taking note of certain settings - as I may still want to use the phone for `3` - but also to chop and change with other 2g Sims.

He wants £10 - no postage, no fuss so seems ok pricewise.... but if this is a complex process am I taking any risks....

If I was to use one of the sendaway services, the same question applies - do I need to take a note of anything in the phone before sending it away?
