The worst bargain ever PS2 bundles at Game

Sandy Matthews (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 2nd December 2004, 13:27

Hi all,

just got an e-mail from Game, saying that they now have a limited number of PS2`s in stock for customers who asked to be informed only (there`s a major shortage at the moment). However, you can only buy it as part of a bundle, the cheapest of which is still over £200. Looks to me like they`re trying to ruthlessly exploit parents who are desperate to get a PS2 for the kids for Xmas, and will pay whatever it takes - so Game bundle a whole load of crap with it and force you to buy the lot if you want it.

As an example - PS2 plus memory card, extra controller and 3 games - £243.95, save a massive £5.98 on the list price - usually you get a tenner off any game when you buy a console!

Is it just me, or does this make Game complete scum?

For any unfortunate parents who think it`s worth it :

<rant over> >:( :( :/ :) ;)

tbh i wouldnt be suprised if this whole PS2 shortage isnt a scam altogether ,it caused mass panic buying of them and now people prepared to pay over inflated prices, wait till after xmas im sure loads of old stock will suddely make a reapearance for much lower prices ;)

Simple economics, supply and demand.

I bought my daughters the day after the "Friday" launch in MVC (with a suitable age range bundle of games) for £144, I had a feeling there may be S & D issues closer to Christmas, especially as it was a new model.

Was it only last year the Silver one came out & that sold faster than hot cakes just because of its colour. ;)

If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?

Really?? Blimey, I only bought it because I traded in some old consoles and the trade in price was good.

I never use the thing - maybe I will stick it on there - got an xbox anyway.

It`s happened every year for god knows how many now matey!
The PSX suddenly became impossible to get....supply sorted later,....
The PSOne went the same way...supply sorted just in time...

The PS2 was a joke....then sorted itself out...
The PS2 Silver was in ridiculously short supply, then tons appeared outa nowhere...

and now we have the slimline PS2....exactly the same problem all over again!
Maybe`s Sony just aint a smart enough big company to anticipate the demand on their consoles every year at roughly the same time, right?
<koff>

Oh, and I do believe there is something somewhere in TS law that states an item cannot be sold in the way described here for Game.
They can offer bundles, but they can`t force you to take a bundle if it`s a console that is sold standalone.
(Best example: Gamecube Donkey Konga pack, GC, D.Konga and Bongos, all sold seperately, but this pack is PACKAGED by Nintendo, therefore cannot be forced into individual sales)

Sorta that multipack thing you see in supermarkets the "part of a bundle, not to be sold seperately"

Now, to that effect, I as yet, know of no actual bundles made by Sony, except unit, controller and PSU...so....

Although, the Currys website had some yesterday, and that too was a £240+ bundle, so it`s possible they are doing one now (we have nowt in store so can`t say 100%)
