Been thinking of buying `Taken`! Should I?

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Friday, 9th May 2003, 07:32

Been off work all this week and this newly released DVD has , ahem , `taken` my fancy! Im really into Alien type films and interested in anything and everything alien - abduction etc - so is this title worth buying? I missed the first episode of this series when it was shown on TV a few months back so didnt bother watching the rest!!!

I`ve just started watching the DVD set and should get the review up at the weekend. I`m enjoying it so far, though the wee girls voiceover is annoying.

Excellent series, and contrary to Anil, I found the little girl`s voiceover to be a key part of the story.

The last episode is truly astounding.

I got quite attached to the little girl by the end. While I was watching it,every so often my nose would itch- but I don`t think I`ve been taken...

i liked the voice over, at first you`re left wondering who it is narrating....

And Jacob is a very scary little boy....."Look at me"

I thought it was reasonably engrossing to begin with but gave up on about episode 4. Only partly because of the voiceover; may be a key character but there`s no excuse for that voice.

Did you actually listen to what she was saying, or did you just get offended by the voice ?

She turns out to be the KEY character in the whole series, so may be you should have persisted - all would have become clear, my friend :-)

Take your point, tho` - Speilberg does tend to rely heavily on kids for getting important messages across.

I just thought it got progressively less interesting, and I reached a point where I didn`t care what happened next.

That`s fair enuff, old bean. It wasn`t for everyone.

Personally, I think it was one of the best bits of TV I`ve seen for a good while :-)

The first episode is quite boring, oddly, directed by Tobe `Texas Chain Saw Massacre` Hooper. After that, it did get better, and yes, the girls voice-over is annoying, because of the fact it comes on, My mom always used to tell me. She sure did tell her a lot, particularly as she rarley says anything along these lines in the show. However, when the girl actually appears, near the end, it gets better. A good series, but not great, let down by the beginning and end, with a great middle.
